Day by day itinerary

Day 1
Depart UK

After included VIP airport lounge access, board your overnight flight to Vietnam.

Days 2-3
Ho Chi Minh City

On arrival, you’ll be met by a local representative for an included transfer to your hand-picked accommodation, all floor-to-ceiling windows, timber beams and rustically modern suites. This evening, you’ll be treated to an included welcome dinner of gourmet, Vietnamese food in a villa that once was once the home of a vice president. Your programme of guided tours begins the next day with a visit to the Cu Chi Tunnels. Built by Viet Cong guerrillas, they served as supply routes, hospitals, weapon caches and even living quarters.

Stay: Fusion Suites, Ho Chi Minh City (Superior)

Day 4
Embark ship at Ho Chi Minh City

Today, an included transfer will see you aboard your luxury river ship, where French-colonial charm plays out everywhere from its spa and its all-suite accommodation to its plush lounges and expansive sun-deck, complete with swimming pool. As you sail out into the plush verdure of the Mekong Delta, you’ll also begin your indulgent full-board dining, washed down with local beers and spirits with lunch.

Day 5
Cai Be and Sa Dec

This morning you'll be collected by a local boat for a scenic, palm-fringed journey to the delta town of Cai Be to take in its famed floating market. Then, continuing to Sa Dec, you’ll tour the spectacular Cao Dai Temple and the 19th-century house of French novelist Marguerite Duras’s lover; it’s an ornately faded jewel.

Day 6
Tan Chau and Border Crossing

In the morning, transfer to a small boat for a journey along the tiny tributaries that snake around Tan Chau, stepping ashore to explore rural island life with a rickshaw tour. The rest of the day is spent onboard, taking in the Mekong’s lush scenery as you cross into Cambodia, perhaps enjoying one of the onboard activities. Rotating through, you can expect everything from Tai Chi classes and history lectures to cooking and fruit-carving demonstrations.

Day 7
Phnom Penh

Today you’ll see both sides to the Cambodian capital. First, a tour of the Killing Fields and Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum – a high school turned executioners’ prison – will introduce you to the harrowing atrocities of the Khmer Rouge, before you turn to the royal delights of the Golden Palace and Silver Pagoda. This pair of 19th-century jewels sweep spectacularly skywards in gilded tiers.

Meals: B L D

Day 8
Oudong and Phnom Penh

In Oudong, the former Cambodian capital, you’ll follow the country’s pilgrims to a historic Buddhist monastery, where you’ll participate in a blessing ceremony. Then, jumping on an ox cart, you’ll explore its rural villages, all vibrant rice paddies and traditional buildings. This afternoon is then left free to explore Phnom Penh, perhaps taking a tuk-tuk tour or relaxing in one of the cute bars along its river.

Day 9
Oknha Tey

Arriving into Oknha Tey, you’ll discover an island settlement famed for its traditional silk weaving. Hopping on a tuk tuk, you’ll take in everything from local homes to vibrant rice fields and those storied silk workshops. Then, sailing on, enjoy some time at leisure, perhaps enjoying a dip in the pool or lounging on the sun deck, book in hand.

Day 10
Angkor Ban

One of the few traditional villages to survive the Khmer Rouge regime, your walking tour in Angkor Ban will see you between stilted wooden houses and great banana plantations. A tuk tuk tour will also bring you onto the agricultural island of Koh Pen, travelling along shaded lanes under palm and sandalwood trees. Depending on the time of year, you can see a variety range of crops growing, including coconuts and tropical fruit.

You’ll then be introduced to the mighty Temples of Angkor with Ta Prohm, whose great centuries-old ruins are tangled in giant tree roots. Finish with a visit to a local organisation that provides art-based education opportunities for disadvantaged children.
