The Wexas Travel Foundation is a registered charity and a non-profit division of Wexas designed to raise money for deserving charities. It was launched in 2007.
We are all becoming increasingly conscious of our environmental and social responsibilities. As a travel company we strongly believe in using our position to support organisations at the forefront of social and environmental change.
We are currently fundraising on behalf of Childreach to support the recovery in Nepal after the devastating earthquake on Saturday 25 April 2015; the earthquake, measuring a massive 7.8 magnitude shook the lives of at least 8 million people, killed over 5,000 people and left many homeless. 90% of homes and schools in the Sindhupalchok District were severely affected by the earthquake.
What are our immediate aims?
The news of April's devastating earthquake and the tragic loss of life associated with it shocked us to the core. Wexas has close associations with Nepal - our Honorary President Sir Ranulph Fiennes has scaled Everest and Wexas specialists have travelled extensively there - and the tragic events have touched us all.
In response to the events and to aid the country's recovery, we are supporting Childreach as they look to create safe spaces for children in one of the worst affected districts in Nepal, provide safe sanitation, food supplies, counselling and protection from child traffickers. They are also working hard on getting aid to remote Nepalese communities and aim to set up 500 temporary schools in order to restore some sense of normality for children and orphans affected by the events.
How are we raising money?
- Donations from Wexas members
A £2 donation is automatically added to each travel booking made through Wexas. This is of course voluntary and members can opt out of the donation by advising their consultant at the time of booking. Additional donations are always welcome and can be made swiftly and securely via our links to JustGiving.
- Fundraising by Wexas staff
The staff at Wexas organise regular fundraising initiatives. These have included raffles, charity collections, selling homemade cakes and curries and physical challenges.
- Company donations
Wexas covers all administration costs, ensuring that all donations go towards helping those that need it. The company also offered financial support to staff fundraising activities, covering the cost of fuel and transport on the Three Peaks Challenge, the South West Coast Path and the C2C cycle expeditions.
