Escorted tour | Natural world

Explore one of the world’s final frontiers with a small group 4WD journey through the seemingly impenetrable Kimberley. This is a remarkably colourful landscape of searingly blue skies and ochre red earth and a place of ancient rock art dating back millennia, rugged gorges and tumbling waterfalls cascading into the cool depths of watering holes, the legendary Gibb River Road and unique beehive striped domes of the Bungle Bungles.

Day by day itinerary

Day 1
Depart UK

Depart London on your flight to Perth arriving a day later. In Perth, you’ll connect with your flight to Broome.

Day 2
Arrive Broome

On arrival in Broome, transfer to your accommodation – the Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa.

Broome is the western gateway to the Kimberley and Australia’s pearling capital. Buy lustrous South Sea pearls in the shops of Chinatown or browse the galleries which house works from some of Kimberley’s most celebrated contemporary and Aboriginal artists. You can even walk with dinosaurs with a visit the Gantheaume Point, where the ancient dinosaur footprints are said to be over 130 million years old.

Stay: Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa, Broome (Superior)

Days 3-4
Tunnel Creek, Windjana Gorge & Bell Gorge Wilderness Camp

As you leave Broome visit the Boab Prison Tree, this hollow tree is believed to be around 1,500 years old and was allegedly used during the 1800s to house prisoners. From here you’ll start your journey along the Gibb River Road – the landscape is a spectacular kaleidoscope of intensely coloured ranges, deep rock pools and tumbling waterfalls. At Tunnel Creek you’ll have chance to wade through the cool waters, before heading on to Windjana Gorge where there are ancient marine fossils embedded deep in the gorge walls. Spot the freshwater crocs lazing in the sun on the banks of the Lennard River before arriving at Bell Gorge Wilderness Lodge.

Bell Gorge Wilderness Lodge has a beautiful location close to the Iminitji Aboriginal community and offers incredible views of the King Leopold Escarpment. There are 24 tented cabins with twin beds, en suite bathrooms and private decks. You’ll spend two nights here, giving plenty of opportunity to explore Bell Gorge and the surrounding area.
