Location
The Clare Valley is one of Australia’s oldest wine regions and is around 60 miles north of Adelaide in South Australia. The region is home to a vibrant food and wine industry and, while perhaps not quite as well known as its close by counterpart the Barossa Valley, offers some equally outstanding experiences.
Accommodation
There are three en suite guest rooms at Thorn Park by the vines all offering supremely comfortable accommodation. The Yellow Room is a calming space with a palate of yellows, creams and deep indigo blue; antique botanical prints and Royal Doulton china adorn the walls. The White Room is the largest of the rooms with vistas over the dam and eucalyptus trees, the cool palate of whites, pale grey and sheer muslin drapes is enhanced with Australian antiques and art works. The Mocha Room looks out to the northern vineyards and the furniture is a mix of early Australian and newer, contemporary design.
Dining
Superb, regional dining is the focus here and the galley kitchen is open to the dining room to bring the theatre of the kitchen to life. Cooking classes are available by prior arrangements.
Facilities
There is an extensive library for guests to enjoy but with the wonders of the Clare Valley surrounding you, it’s not surprising that you’ll probably spend your days exploring. The towns of Clare, Sevenhill, Watervale and Polish Hill River are home to some of the world’s best wineries and the valley’s signature wine – the Riesling – is well represented. As with the wineries, there is food to suit each and every palate from country-style pub meals to gourmet, fine dining. Eating fresh in the Clare Valley is easy – just look for the Eat Local signs.
