The White Nights Festival in St Petersburg that runs from May to July each year is a riot of music, theatre, fireworks and carnivals. Held amid the half-light of the Midnight Sun, it draws international stars of ballet and opera to such illustrious venues as the Mariinsky Concert Hall and the vast and impressive Palace Square. And, of course, there's never a bad time to see the world-famous Hermitage Museum or Moscow's Red Square and the iconic domes of Saint Basil's Cathedral.
We've designed this tour to get the most from these Russian giants, but we can tailor any element to suit your tastes and interests.
Day by day itinerary
Arrive in Moscow and transfer to the 5-star Hotel Baltschug Kempinski, directly opposite the Kremlin, for two nights. Enjoy a full-day tour of the city on day two, taking in Moscow's sights such as Red Square, the Kremlin and the Bolshoi Theatre. Other options include tours to the city's ornate Metro and the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, arguably the largest Orthodox church in the world.
Stay: Baltschug Kempinski (Superior) and Ritz Carlton (Deluxe)
Take a high-speed train from Moscow to St Petersburg and transfer to the Angleterre Hotel by St Isaac's Cathedral, where you'll stay for three nights.
We've included both a city tour and a separate tour of the world-famous Hermitage Museum but a number of options are available. Highlights include the Peter and Paul Fortress, built by Peter the Great in 1703 to mark the birth of the city; the halls and parklands of Catherine Palace, the resting place of Catherine the Great; and Peterhof Palace, begun in 1714 to rival Versailles.
After breakfast at your hotel, transfer to the airport for your flight home or extend your stay with a journey through Russia's spectacular Golden Ring.
