Day by day itinerary

Days 1-2

Fly to Oslo and check into your hotel. You'll have two days to explore Norway's capital, a city known for its innovative design, world-class art galleries and rolling countryside surrounds, where hiking and cycling provide an alternative attraction to its gourmet waterfront restaurants and the skyscraping architecture of its famous 'Barcode' district. Perhaps head to the National Gallery to stand face to face with the haunting image of Edvard Munch’s 'The Scream', delve into Norwegian history at the Viking Ship Museum or head to the shopping and entertainment of Aker Brygge to enjoy everything from photo exhibitions to live concerts and al fresco dining.

Day 3
Norway in a Nutshell' tour - Oslo to Bergen

Swapping city living for the sheer beauty of the western fjords, you'll set off to Bergen on your included 'Norway in a Nutshell' tour. With scenic train rides on the Bergen Railway to Myrdal – northern Europe’s highest stretch of railway – and its narrow gauge cousin that descends into the pretty village of Fläm, your day's journey takes you past plunging ravines, cascading waterfalls and dizzying mountain peaks as you explore the shores of pretty Naeroyfjord and Aurlandsfjord. There's also time to experience the Stalheimskleiva, a stunning stretch of road whose twisting hairpins ascend from the verdant Nærøydalen valley to the summit at Stalheim, idyllically positioned between the Sivlefossen and Stalheimsfossen waterfalls.

Stay: Clarion Collection Havnekontoret, Bergen (Superior)

Day 4

Spend a day exploring Bergen's harbour setting as you stroll past its colourful Hanseatic Bryggen wharf, explore the old fortress of Bergenhus and call in to sample fresh-from-the-boat seafood at the city's famous fish market – Fisketorget – a meeting place for merchants and fishermen since the early 13th century. And, for spectacular sunset views across the city's mountainous backdrop, take the funicular to Mount Floyen's summit.
