Day 1
Oslo

Enjoy included airport lounge access before your flight to Oslo. Norway’s easily navigable capital is home to a host of museums, shops and attractions. Stand face to face with Edvard Munch’s The Scream at the National Gallery, hang out among the statues at Vigeland Sculpture Park, dip into the past at the Viking Ship Museum, or give your tastebuds a treat at Aker Brygge’s renowned restaurants. Our recommended hotel, the boutique Amerikalinjen, is housed the early-20th-century headquarters of the Norwegian American Line, conveniently located next to the train station.

Norway in a Nutshell tour – Oslo to Flåm

Depart Oslo this morning by train for the start of your 'Norway in a Nutshell' tour, bringing you from the urban buzz of the capital to Flåm, in the heart of the western fjords. The first leg sees you across a high plateau to the mountain station of Myrdal where you'll board the Flam Railway – the steepest standard-gauge line in the world. It's a seriously spectacular journey, passing plunging ravines, cascading waterfalls and verdant mountain peaks before dropping down to the village of Flåm itself, on the shores of Aurlandsfjord. Check into your hotel, then take a stroll, perhaps followed by dinner at the excellent Aegir Brewpub, where local beers are served alongside delicious, Viking-inspired food.

Then it's time to board the train in Voss for the final leg to Bergen, where you'll check into the Edvard Greig-inspired Opus XVI.
