This 13-day tailor-made tour is the prefect way to experience the best of New York State. The trip starts in New York City, arguably America's most iconic metropolis and home to some of the world's most recognisable sights including the Statue of Liberty, Broadway, the Empire State Building and Central Park, as well as some of the best dining anywhere in the US.

After experiencing all New York has to offer, jump in a hire car and head north to the quiet towns and beautiful countryside, superb family-owned wineries and artisan farmers markets around Hudson Valley and Finger Lakes, a complete contrast to the Big Apple. The climax of this memorable holiday will be at the magnificent Niagara Falls, a natural wonder to rival any other on the planet.

Day by day itinerary

Days 1-3
UK/New York City

Spend three days in the Big Apple, taking in everything from Times Square and Central Park to the popular neighbourhoods of SoHo, Tribeca and Brooklyn. Be sure to head to the top of the Rockefeller Center for the best views.

Stay: Sheraton New York

Days 4-5
Westchester & Hudson Valley

Just 40 miles north, the Westchester area in the lovely Hudson Valley is a world apart from the city you’ve left behind. Visit Kykuit, the palatial home to generations of the Rockefeller dynasty, which features sculptures by Henry Moore in the gardens.

Stay: Renaissance Westchester

Day 6
Finger Lakes

Drive towards the Finger Lakes for a stay at Skaneateles on the shores of a crystal-clear lake and home to an historic downtown dating back to 1796. Spend time exploring the region's wineries and vineyards on one of four wine trails surrounding the picturesque lakes of Canadaigua, Cayuga, Keuka and Seneca. If you time it right then the Finger Lakes Wine Festival at Watkins Glen in July is a great way to experience the region's produce with over 90 wineries, live musicians and artists in attendance.

Stay: Hope Lake Lodge

Days 7-8

On the banks of Lake Ontario lies Rochester, a good base to explore the Finger Lakes, the pretty gorges along the Genesee River and more than 100 wineries. Plus, spend some time in one of Rochester’s excellent museums. We recommend the George Eastman House, the Kodak museum and the Strong National Museum of Play.

Stay: Hyatt Regency, Rochester

Days 9-10
Niagara Falls

Take the scenic route to Niagara Falls, driving the Great Lakes Seaway Trail – a designated Scenic Byway. You’ll be based in the historic village of Lewiston ten minutes from the Falls. Once there, choose between a jet boat tour or the more sedate Maid of the Mist, for a closer view.

Stay: Sheraton at the Falls

Day 11

Heading back to New York, stop off for the night at Corning, a small city known for its glass making industry. Visit the fascinating Corning Museum of Glass, which contains some wonderful interactive exhibits and more than 4,000 objects, tracing the history of glassmaking over the last 3,500 years.

Stay: Radisson Corning

Days 12-13
New York City/UK

Return to the city that never sleeps for your return flight home, arriving back in the UK on day 13.
