Introduction
The iSimangaliso Wetland Park combines eight ecosystems and an incredible diversity of flora and fauna and was declared South Africa's first World Heritage site. The park's prestigious status was gained thanks to the beauty of the landscape, its unique ecological processes and the exceptional diversity of species it protects. The park boasts the highest density of black rhino in the world, the highest number of frog species, the last major swamp forests in South Africa, more than 2,000 species of flowering plants, 25,000-thousand-year-old coastal dunes, significant cultural heritage sites, including evidence of Stone Age human activity and five distinct cultural groups - Zulu, Swazi, Shangaan, Tonga and Gonda.
