Ranthambore National Park is one of the best places to observe tigers in their natural habitat in India. It is open from October and June, but the best time to visit is in the dry season between October and March when water tempts the big cats to the lakesides.
Alongside tigers, the park is also rich in other flora and fauna. There are a wide range of wild animals native to the park, including leopards, striped hyenas, sambar deer, chital and common or hanuman langurs. The vegetation in the park is usually of the dry deciduous type that's made up of over 300 species, including banyan, dhok and khajur trees.
Day by day itinerary
Sawai Madhopur – Ranthambore
The Ranthambore National Park was once the hunting ground of the Maharajas of Jaipur, before being turned into a game sanctuary in 1955, and in 1980 it was made a national park. It was also included in Project Tiger in 1972, an initiative set up to protect tigers in the wild.
The park is famous for its tigers and due to conservation efforts the tiger population has stabilised if not increased there. Tigers can be spotted there quite regularly, even in the middle of the day, going about their daily pursuit of hunting and taking care of their young. That's not all it has to offer, however. It's also rich in other flora and fauna, including mammals and reptiles, as well as over 300 species of vegetation.
After lunch, proceed on a game drive in the park.
