Location
Wallingford Homestead enjoys a peaceful setting among beautifully manicured lawns, lush farmland and rolling green hills in a rural part of Hawke’s Bay, one of New Zealand’s oldest wine regions. It lies around an hour’s drive from Hastings and an hour and 20 minutes from Napier, while the nearest main town is Waipukurau, around 25 minutes away.
Accommodation
There are nine elegantly appointed rooms at Wallingford Homestead, each blending heritage charm with contemporary comfort. All categories come with complimentary Wi-Fi, plush bathrobes and slippers, luxury bathroom products, a Nespresso coffee machine and a selection of homemade cookies and biscuits as standard. Some rooms also feature private verandahs – perfect for enjoying your morning coffee accompanied by idyllic countryside views.
Dining
Indulging in sumptuous food and wine is part and parcel of staying at Wallingford Homestead. The emphasis is very much on seasonal, foraged produce, sourced locally from ethical artisans. Some ingredients, such as truffles, are grown on the grounds of the estate itself. Mornings begin with gourmet breakfasts prepared by award-winning chef Chris Stockdale – think freshly baked sourdough bread, homemade jams and egg dishes cooked to order – while thoughtfully curated lunch and dinner tasting menus showcase sustainable, farm-to-table dining paired with exquisite regional wines.
Facilities
Guests can enjoy access to the homestead’s gardens, a heated pool pavilion and cosy lounge spaces with open fireplaces. Wallingford Homestead can also arrange a variety of tours and experiences in the Hawke’s Bay region, including fly fishing, helicopter tours and golf. And if you fancy a trip to the coast, Porangahau Beach is just a 15-minute drive away – a delightfully tranquil spot for a leisurely stroll or a dip in the sea.
