The city's first skyscraper and an Art Deco monument, this hotel is brimming with character and immaculate rooms
City | Spa
The surrounding neighbourhood of La Recoleta is one of the most charming in the city, filled with art galleries, antique shops, exclusive boutiques and countless restaurants. Stray further afield and you’ll find that different parts of the city have distinctly different flavours. La Boca’s brightly painted buildings are some of the oldest in town, Calle Florida is a mecca for shoppers, while the Plaza de Mayo has the town hall, cathedral and the presidential residence, affectionately known as the ‘Pink Palace’.
The Art Deco rooms are designed by Pierre-Yves Rochon and remain traditionally handsome in a soft palette of yellow, black and champagne cream. All have separate bathtubs, showers and bidets, as well as comfy king or queen beds, complimentary WiFi and city or atrium views. The 29 suites are on the higher floors. Not only do they come with spectacular city views, they have the additional benefits of Nespresso coffee machines, HP wireless printers and in-room exercise kits. The Imperial Suite has a floor to itself, which it fills with two bedrooms, a living room, dining room, kitchen, full bar and home theatre system.
The main restaurant, Le Sud, is – rather refreshingly – not an Argentine steakhouse but a French-Argentinian hybrid that successfully marries French culinary traditions with the best local ingredients. For fresh croissants and coffee in the mornings, head instead to Café Arroyo, which also does a great range of sandwiches, salads and light snacks at lunch time. For an afternoon curled up by the fire, try La Bibliotheque lounge, which transforms at night into a trendy wine bar with an enviable cellar and live musical entertainment. Both bars offer complimentary WiFi.
All rooms come with complimentary access to the hotel’s next-generation fitness centre, indoor heated pool and inviting hammam. Extensive business and IT facilities are on hand, as are valet parking, 24-hour room service, a florist, a gift shop and a currency exchange. The concierge staff are especially helpful – always able and eager to help guests make the most of the ‘Paris of South America’.
