After six months of carefully considered renovation, this luxury resort reopened its doors, bringing Shangri-La’s world-renowned Asian hospitality to Mauritius’ island idyll. Nestled amid swaying palms on the uncrowded east coast, it straddle’s both world class beaches and the stunning fairway’s of one of the Indian Ocean’s best golf courses.
Blending elements of indigenous island heritage with contemporary island chic, the resort’s 200 rooms and suites, and three opulent villas, provide guests with a personalised sanctuary to truly relax and unwind. Whether ocean view or direct beach access, each one comes with a luxury bathroom with deep soaking tub and separate shower, state-of-the-art technology and furnishings that match relaxing colour palettes with good old-fashioned comfort. For the ultimate in exclusive beachfront luxury, look to the Villas’ private pools and beaches, lush gardens and 24-hour butler service.
With Kushi’s sushi and wagyu delights to the wide-ranging show-kitchen fare at Le Bazar, guests are spoilt for choice when it comes to dining. Rounding off the collection of five distinct restaurants are Republik Beach Club & Grill’s laid-back bites, Safran, with its Hibiscus Bay views and heady mix of rich Indian and Mauritian flavours, and a butler-served beach club on the private island of Ilot Mangénie. Elsewhere, Ti-Marché is open for grab-and-go light bites while the lively Sega Bar brings exotic Tiki concoctions and signature Shangri-La cocktails, including deliciously smoky rums, to a delightful pool-side venue.
Whether you prefer to indulge with CHI, The Spa’s menu of Chinese treatments, body massages and yoga classes, or head to the tee at the award-winning Ile Aux Cerfs golf course, there’s plenty to occupy the hours between those Indian Ocean dips. Or, for the more active, perhaps consider a kayaking trip or try your hand at wake boarding, sailing, water skiing or paddle boarding, all at no additional cost. Scuba diving and fishing trips can also be arranged for a fee.
