One&Only Le St Géran has long been established as one of the most exclusive resorts on Mauritius, ideally situated on the silver sands of its own peninsula. Jutting out from the east coast of the island, its fabulous coral reefs enjoy an enviable position between a sheltered lagoon and the warmth of the Indian Ocean. As such, its clear waters are ideal for snorkelling and diving. If that’s not enough, there’s a full range of water sports including water-skiing and kitesurfing, along with a 9-hole golf course.
All 162 suites feature softly styled interiors and private terraces or balconies that face the surrounding seas. Exteriors are influenced by Dutch and French colonial styles while, back inside, spacious bathrooms are beautifully appointed with cascading showers. All guests enjoy a personalised 24-hour butler service. Look for an improved location with a Beach Front Junior Suite or opt for an Ocean Suite complete with a separate lounge and private dining room.
The resort’s restaurants offer a range of international and local cuisine – think succulent Creole curries and fresh fruits. For meat-eaters, the PRIME Contemporary Grill serves only the finest wagyu beef imported from Australia while the Indian Pavilion serves modern takes on delicacies from the subcontinent. For a more relaxed, poolside location, La Terrase’s international favourites are a great choice while, for a special occasion, enjoy a private dinner on the beach or in a custom-made tipi.
In between spending time on the sand or in the sea, it’s easy for days to get away from you. Play a game of tennis, browse the library, spot tropical fish on a glass-bottom boat trip or simply take a walk through the resort’s fragrant gardens as you make the most of the Mauritian sunshine. This being the One&Only brand, there’s an extensive menu of traditional and contemporary treatments available from a world-class spa, complete with lap pool, fitness centre and secluded yoga spots.
What we loved
Le Saint Géran shipwreck, immortalised in Bernardin de Saint Pierre’s novel ‘Paul et Virginie’, lies just off the peninsula.
Please note that the resort closed in February 2017 for major refurbishment, and will re-open later in 2017.
