Seal River Heritage Lodge is a fly-in lodge reached by a 30-minute flight from Churchill. The lodge sits on the edge of the Seal River Estuary where, during the summer months, thousands of beluga whales gather. During September the lodge is the focus for the Arctic Safari programme and in October and November it is the setting for the Polar Bear Photo Safari.
This rustic wilderness lodge offers all the creature comforts of home in a remarkable location. Cosy ensuite rooms provide a comfortable place to sleep after a day of exploration, while panoramic windows ensure wildlife spotting opportunities are maximised.
All meals are included and taken in the main lodge dining room, which boasts floor-to-ceiling windows for wildlife viewing. A trip with Churchill Wild isn’t meant to be about the food, but the food is so good it almost could be. Breakfast is a hearty affair that might involve French toast, omelettes or eggs and bacon; there is also local cereal and fresh fruit. Where possible lunch is enjoyed in the open air and there will always be homemade biscuits for dessert. Dinner is equally impressive with local produce featuring as much as possible.
The experiences on offer differ depending on the time of year you travel with different programmes available in summer and autumn. In July it’s all about the beluga whales and you will enjoy boat expeditions to view the belugas, seals and polar bears. It isn't an exaggeration for you to expect to see hundreds of whales. And, on walking and hiking tours, your guides have vast knowledge gained through many years of wildlife photography and are happy to share their knowledge. There are also kayaks and canoes for use. There is a guest lounge with fireplace for relaxed evenings and a viewing tower to take in the surrounding tundra and its inhabitants, there is also a library with maps and plenty of reading material.
