Location

Located in a prehistoric setting, in a relic of one of the largest dried super-lakes, the Makgadikgadi, Jack's Camp offers striking desert contrasts in the Great Kalahari area. The camp is accessible via daily flights available from Johannesburg or Maun Airport, to the Tsigaro airstrip at Jack’s Camp.

Accommodation

Nine luxury suites exude dramatic, old school glamour in green canvas tents with muslin draped walls and crisp linen. A pool pavilion ensures the desert blaze is kept at bay within these sophisticated 1940s desert safari tents. Rooms feature romantic outdoor showers, plunge pools, unique furnishings, and copper basins alongside a quirky atmosphere within the Great Kalahari environment. Make sure you explore the natural history cabinets that have been thoughtfully curated by owner Ralph Bousfield.

Dining

Dining tends to be a group affair, enjoyed indoors at the camp’s antique 36 seater dining table. Breakfast consists of buffet styles options ranging from cereals to yogurts and cooked breakfast items. Lunch and dinner menus vary, including traditional soups and meats accompanied by fresh vegetables and lentils.

Facilities

The new, larger mess tent is resplendent with Jack’s renowned Natural History Museum, library, antique pool table and a well-stocked drinks chest. The iconic nomadic Persian tea tent has been made larger and the shop has been renovated and restocked with new treasures. The camp also has a one-of-a-kind pool pavilion overlooking the pan.

Activities

Guided game drives offer the chance to explore 6,200 square miles of Makgadikgadi Salt Pan to see rare desert species including the Brown Hyena and the Kalahari Lion. Guests also have the opportunity to get close and personal with meerkats, enjoy compelling bush walks and interact with San tracks from the Bushmen tribe, enjoy birding walks to seek migratory and resident bird species, and scenic quad biking through the fossil pans in the Great Kalahari basin.
