This spectacular lodge is located within a primeval rainforest and perched atop a working tea planation, offering direct access to Rwanda's fascinating wildlife and culture. There's everything from tracking our closest ancestor, the chimpanzee, to spa treatments on the open-air, jungle-view deck.
A stay here is truly unforgettable – made better by the wonderful staff for which nothing is too much trouble; the five-star service is perfectly matched by the surrounds and exquisite interior. Choose from one or two bedroom suites, both just as stylish, with crackling fireplaces, vivid art features, a constantly replenished mini bar and treetop deck alongside a rainforest-view shower and standalone bath, while an in-room iPad and LCD TV provide all the modern amenities.
After days spent exploring, the stunning spa awaits – a truly indulgent experience as you enjoy a massage or facial overlooking the jungle. Come evening, the spectacular dining room is all Rwandan-inspired features and stone fireplaces alongside gourmet cuisine. It's best enjoyed after a drink among the rustic beams of the Tea Lounge that overlooks the misty Rwandan mountains, while other dining options include light bites by the infinity pool, gourmet picnics and private dining by candlelight.
The myriad activities are perhaps the star of the show, though, from exploring the jungle trails via bicycle to stargazing tours, birdwatching, and even the chance to see Nyungwe via helicopter. Spot colobus monkeys with mountain trekking, head on the spectacular canopy walk, or scramble past waterfalls, with open views of the countryside and stunning Lake Kivu. The reason many venture here, though, is to spot our closest ancestor, the chimpanzee – treks are easily organised from the hotel.
