Hotel La Palma has the best rooftop bar on Lake Maggiore with amazing views over the lake and Borromean Islands. It’s a popular haunt with locals as well as tourists so head there early and grab a seat in time for sunset. We love the cocktails here and you can order bar snacks. It's the must-be place at aperitivo time.

If you can tear yourself away, take the short walk into Stresa’s centre along the promenade. There’s piazzas, shops and cafés to explore. The ferry stop for boats to the Borromean Islands is close by too, which is a great day out. The gardens and villas are stunning.

There’s a lakeside swimming pool that’s just over the road, across the promenade - we love the hydro massage stations and extra-large sofas for lounging on.
