Greystoke Mahale is located in remote western Tanzania. Well off the beaten track, this very unique lodge offers a mesmerising combination of beach, bush and one of the largest groups of chimpanzees in Africa. The camp backs onto a soft, white sandy beach and the crystal-clear waters of Lake Tanganyika, framed by the imposing Mahale mountains.
The 'banda' style rooms have been fashioned from retired dhows and almost all of the lodge has been created using sustainable materials. Spend your days visiting the chimpanzees who live in the mountains behind the camp and are completely relaxed.
In the evenings enjoy a drink at the lamp-lit bar while gazing across the lake to the distant mountains of The Congo. A true African adventure and an experience of a lifetime. Other activities include snorkelling, kayaking or fishing on the lake, or hiking the mountain paths while cooling off in waterfalls and rock pools
We like: Sitting on the forest floor among the chimpanzees while they go about their daily business is breathtaking.
Best for: A real, wild, nature experience for animal lovers.
