Amankora Gangtey is located in the off-the-beaten-track Phobjkha Valley near the village of Gangtey, between Punakha and Bumthang. The resort is set on a forested knoll with sweeping views of the broad valley and the 16th century Gangtey Goemba monastery. You reach the resort via a winding track that leads you through the forest, and has great views across the valley landscape.
There are eight suites at the hotel that have open-plan living and bedrooms, as well as views across the valley. The suites combine a bedroom and lounge, and feature a king-sized bed, reading chair and a window banquette. There’s also a spacious bathroom with separate shower and bath. All accommodation is also tastefully decorated with wood panelling and chocolate-brown walls.
There is a combined Living and Dining Room, that’s appointed with cosy chairs, communal dining tables, and floor-to-ceiling windows providing views of the surrounding mountains. There are two set menus per meal, featuring Bhutanese, Western, Indian or Thai cuisine.
There is a great spa at the hotel that features two massage treatment rooms, and changing areas on the lodge’s ground floor. There’s also a communal Living Room.
