Location
andBeyond Punakha River Lodge enjoys an idyllic setting in the Punakha Valley, one of Bhutan’s most scenic and spiritually significant regions. Tucked into rice paddies and orange orchards along the banks of the Mo Chhu River, the lodge is a peaceful retreat framed by emerald hills and snow-dusted peaks. You are within easy reach of Punakha Dzong, the country’s most majestic fortress-monastery, as well as picturesque hiking trails and traditional farming villages. Though secluded, the lodge is just a scenic 2.5-hour drive from Paro International Airport via the mountain passes of central Bhutan.
Accommodation
The lodge’s six tented suites and two expansive villas offer rustic charm and refined comfort. Each tented suite features handwoven textiles and timber accents, opening onto private decks with river or forest views. Inside, expect deep soaking tubs, four-poster beds, and wood-burning stoves for cooler mountain evenings. The River House Villa includes its own plunge pool, while the Family Suite offers a generous layout for those travelling together.
Dining
Dining at andBeyond Punakha River Lodge celebrates the rich culinary heritage of Bhutan, infused with global flavours and local produce. Meals are served in a variety of settings, from candlelit riverside dinners to breezy pavilions overlooking the rice fields. Expect seasonal menus crafted around fresh vegetables, highland grains, and house-made cheeses, with traditional Bhutanese dishes like ema datshi (chilli and cheese stew) complemented by grilled meats, Himalayan trout, and inspired vegetarian options. Each meal is paired with attentive service and sweeping views of the valley.
Facilities
Designed for connection with nature and culture, the lodge offers a host of immersive experiences and wellness moments. Begin the day with sunrise yoga by the river or a guided hike to hidden hilltop temples. The on-site spa specialises in holistic treatments using indigenous ingredients, while a hot stone bath under the stars offers a quintessential Bhutanese ritual. There’s also a library lounge for quiet reading, an organic kitchen garden, and personalised excursions tailored to your interests, whether it’s rafting on the Mo Chhu, visiting local monasteries, or simply relaxing by the fire pit with a drink in hand.
