Begin your Caribbean adventure in Saint Lucia, where you'll walk the Des Cartiers Forest Trail and relax on stunning gold sand beaches. From there you'll head to the mountainous, jungle-clad landscapes of Dominica and the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Morne Trois Pitons National Park. Follow that up with a three-night stay in Martinique, famed for its white coral coastline, colonial French architecture and bustling markets before returning to Saint Lucia for three more days of walking, snorkelling, swimming and relaxation on some of the Caribbean's most beautiful beaches.

Day by day itinerary

Day 1
Arrive in Saint Lucia

Arrive in Saint Lucia and transfer to your hotel, located in the foothills on the island's picturesque Atlantic coast, your base for exploring the east side of the island.

Stay: Standard Hotel

Day 2
Walk the Descartiers Rainforest Trail

This morning, after breakfast, you'll drive the short distance to the Quilesse Forest Reserve for a guided walk along the Des Cartiers Rainforest Trail, where you'll have the chance to see some of the 30 species of bird, including St Lucia Oriole and St Lucia Black Finch, that inhabit the reserve. The afternoon is free, affording the opportunity to visit the botanical gardens or Sandy Bay (both optional).

Day 3
Pigeon Island National Park

Day 4
Arrive in Dominica

Fly from Saint Lucia to Dominica, an island of dense jungle, towering mountains and waterfalls that makes up part of the Windward Isles. Dominica (not to be confused with the Dominican Republic), was originally French, a fact reflected in the Creole language spoken by the locals; a French based patois interspersed with English and African words. Known as 'Nature Island' Dominica is one of the most interesting and scenically beautiful islands in the Caribbean, a rarely visited treasure trove of flora, fauna and some intriguing historical sites. On arrival you'll travel into the mountains to the small village of Laudat, from where you'll get some superb views of the coast and mountain peaks. Later you'll check into your hotel, followed by an optional trip to Tia's Spa (depending on arrival time).

Stay: Standard Hotel

Day 5
Option walk to Morne Trois Pitons National Park

Today is free to explore some of the 17,000 acres of UNESCO World Heritage-listed rainforest that makes up the stunning Morne Trois Pitons National Park. Take a tough eight-hour hike to Boiling Lake, one of Dominica's most impressive sites, or enjoy a gentler walk to Freshwater Lake, located in the crater of a collapsed volcano, where you'll have the chance to relax and enjoy a spot of kayaking. On your return and weather permitting, take a dip in beautiful Titou Gorge.

Stay: Standard Hotel

Day 6
Middleham Falls and Roseau

This morning you'll take a three-hour round walk to Middleham Falls, along a path that clings to the hillside and takes you deep into forest of Chataignier Trees, filled with hummingbirds. After lunch you'll head back to the coast and the charming capital Rosseau, an atmospheric town of colourful buildings and people that perfectly reflects this characterful Caribbean island. Visit the town's small museum to learn about Carib-Indian culture, the original inhabitants of Dominica who travelled from North America to South America, finally settling in the Caribbean. The afternoon is free to relax or participate in optional activities.

Stay: Standard Hotel

Day 7
Ferry to Martinique

Today you'll head by ferry across the Straits of Dominica to Martinique, passing the old fort that guards the harbour of Fort-de-France. Still under French rule, Martinique is quite a contrast, with French replacing English and the Euro replacing the Caribbean Dollar. Famed as the early home of Napoleon's wife Josephine and of Gaugin, one of the first ever rum distillers, Martinique has a fascinating history and its abundance of sugar cane led to the French dropping their claims over the whole of Canada in return for sovereignty over the island. On arrival you'll transfer to Anse Mitan, where you'll spend the next three nights.

Stay: Basic Hotel

Day 8
Walk from Saint Anne to Les Salines

Today you'll visit the pleasant seaside town of Saint Anne, taking a walk through shady woodland to reach the beautiful white sand beach, framed by swaying palms and the azure waters of the Caribbean Sea.

Stay: Basic Hotel

Meals: B

Day 9
Free day

Today is free to explore the island at your leisure. For those interested in history, a visit to the ruins of Saint Pierre, set in the shadow of the active volcano of Mount Pelee, is highly recommended.

Stay: Basic Hotel

Day 10
Return to Saint Lucia

Board a flight this morning back to Saint Lucia where you'll spend the last few days of your holiday. Head from the bustling town of Castries to Soufriere, a journey that traverses the island's mountainous interior, passing through banana plantations before taking a winding road through lush tropical rainforest. Arrive in the small fishing community of Soufriere, framed by the peaks of the island's famous Pitons.

Stay: Standard Hotel

Day 11
Forest walk at Tet Pau

Control of Saint Lucia has passed between the French and British no less than 13 times, but it's the French influence that is reflected in the architecture of Soufriere, a town of old clapperboard buildings and a beautiful Catholic church, set beneath the forested peak of Petit Piton, rising some 2450 ft out of the sea. This morning you'll enjoy a walk to Tet Pau from where you'll get spectacular views across the island. This afternoon you're free to relax or enjoy an optional activity. A visit to Anse Chastanet offers some of Saint Lucia's best off-beach snorkelling (optional).

Stay: Standard Hotel

Day 12
Free day

Today is completely free to relax or further explore the island at your own pace.
