While Tromso and the ICEHOTEL are iconic destinations in their own right, they also combine perfectly to create a truly unforgettable Scandinavian experience. This tailor-made trip begins with a stay in Norway’s Northern Lights capital where optional excursions range from husky sledding to aurora cruises on the city’s picturesque harbour. You’ll then board a bus to Narvik, a fjord-side town surrounded by snow-dusted peaks, followed by an Arctic Circle train ride into Sweden for a night in one of ICEHOTEL’s snow-carved Ice Rooms.
Day by day itinerary
Depart for Tromso
Begin your adventure in style with included airport lounge access, then board your flight to Tromso, gateway to Norway’s Arctic north. On arrival, take the shuttle to the city centre and check into your hotel, the Clarion Collection With, whose top-floor relaxation area offers sweeping harbour views and, if conditions are right, views of the Northern Lights. Spend the rest of the day at leisure, perhaps taking in the natural history displays at the superb Polaria Museum, or simply relaxing with dinner at a local restaurant and drinks at one of the many pubs and bars that make Tromso’s centre such a joy to explore.
Stay: Clarion Collection Hotel With, Tromso (Superior)
With a full day free, you’ll have time to venture out of the city on an optional excursion. And there are plenty to choose from, with the likes of husky sledding and snowmobiling competing for your attention alongside harbour wildlife cruises and tastings at the world’s northernmost distillery. Speak to our specialists about the many options available. Then, in the evening, be sure to book onto an aurora hunt, heading out into the snow-laden countryside to chase the Northern Lights disco-light swirls.
Bus to Narvik
Depart Tromso today on a scenic bus journey to Narvik. Grab a window seat if you can, for the best views of the region’s icy fjords and snow-clad mountain ranges. Then, on arrival, check into the Scandic Narvik whose 15th-floor Sky Bar looks out over the surrounding landscape. And, if you’ve time, take a ride on the town’s cable car to the summit of Narvikfjellet where the views are finer still.
Stay: Scandic Narvik
Arctic Circle Train to ICEHOTEL
Your trans-Scandinavian adventure continues apace today with a memorable winter train ride across the border into Swedish Lapland. Skirting the snowy mountain resort of Abisko, the views from the carriage are truly spellbinding as you wind your way to Kiruna, jumping off point for ICEHOTEL. A short transfer will bring you to the hotel itself – or perhaps upgrade to arrive in style by husky sled – where a short tour will introduce you to its ice-carved beauty. You’ll then check into your snow-sculpted Ice Room, or themed Art Suite, complete with en suite bathroom and warm room, if you’ve gone for an upgrade, before enjoying an afternoon of optional adventures; there’s everything from ice carving classes to Northern Lights snowmobiling tours and 12-course dining experiences. Wash down the day with a drink at the ICEBAR before grabbing your thermal sleeping bag for an unforgettable night on ice.
Stay: ICEHOTEL, Jukkasjärvi (Superior)
