This tailor-made self-drive holiday begins in the capital Copenhagen, home to world class shopping and dining, the famous Tivoli Gardens and the historic Nyhavn district, before taking you through the heart of Denmark's beautiful countryside to picturesque towns and villages, impressive castles, ancient Viking ruins and much, much more. Along the way you'll stay at some of the country's finest hotels, part of the Small Danish Hotels group that offer characterful, boutique accommodation throughout this wonderful country.

Copenhagen
Arrive in Copenhagen and check in for two nights at the Absalon Boutique Hotel, a new and contemporary design hotel in the city centre. Spend the next day exploring the city.

3-4
Middelfart
Collect your hire car and head west towards Middelfart on the island of Funen. We suggest you break the journey at Roskilde, where attractions include the Viking Ship Museum and a Gothic cathedral that contains the remains of a 10th century king. At Middelfart, check in for two nights at Hindsgavl Slot, a beautifully renovated 13th century castle set among landscaped gardens. Also in the area is the Hans Christian Andersen Museum at Odense and the 450-year-old Egeskov Castle.

5-6
Graasten
Travel south through Jutland to the Benniksgaard Hotel at the highest point of the Flensborg Fjord. Many of the buildings date back to the 18th century and their rustic style creates a warm and inviting atmosphere, a theme carried through to the hotel’s restaurant, where meat is still grilled in the open fireplace.

Esbjerg
The final stop is the town of Esbjerg on Denmark’s west coast, where you’ll spend a night at Hjerting Badehotel. This beachfront hotel o ers a combination of superb seafood and wonderful sunsets. We recommend a walk along the shore of the Wadden Sea, followed by a drink at the hotel’s Ship Inn.
