Highlights Of St Petersburg

5-day tailor-made city break from £1,040 pp incl. flights

Short description

Discover the delights of St Petersburg on this five-day city break to Russia's second city

Recommended for:
City | History & culture | Short break | Summer

Undoubtedly one of the world's most beautiful cities, this is an unforgettable cultural experience. The Hermitage museum alone holds more than three million works of art and historic artefacts, while the lavish exterior of Tsarskoe Selo (Catherine Palace) rivals the opulence of the Palace of Versaille. The palace and park at Peterhof, known as Petrodvorets, is a must and its fountains – especially the Grand Cascade – are worth the trip alone.

Day by day itinerary

Day 1
St Petersburg

Your private transfer will be waiting for you at Pulokovo, St Petersburg ready to whisk you to the five star Angleterre Hotel. Fashioned by Olga Polizzi this intimate stylish hotel overlooks St Isaacs Cathedral and is within walking distance of many of the major sights. The remainder of the day is free for you to familiarise yourself with the hotel and it's immediate surroundings.

Day 2
Hermitage Museum

Following breakfast we have arranged for a private transfer and guide to take you to the Hermitage museum - one of the biggest museums in the world where a magnificent collection of art is housed in the winter palace of Catherine the Great. Founded in 1764, its collection includes over 3 million items, including masterpieces of Leonardo Da Vinci, Raphael, Roden, Rembrandt, Rubens.

The guided element of this tour lasts 3 hours. We have a number of tours available including a prebookable tour of the Gold & Diamond room by a museum guide, so please do discuss the options with your travel expert.

Day 3

Situated 29km from St.Petersburg on the shores of the Baltic Sea, Petrodvorets (or Peterhof as it was formerly known), is an imperial treasure replete with lush parks, monumental cascades and gilded fountains. Following the 1917 Revolution, this former Summer residence of the Tsars was nationalised and turned into a public museum.

The palace is open year round but it is normally between May and September that the fabulous fountains operate. The exact dates that the fountains operate are weather dependent so operation cannot be guaranteed.

Your private transfer will pick you up at the Angleterre (an optional Hydrofoil transfer runs when the fountains are open between May and September) for an additional supplement

The duration of this excursion is approximately 5 hours in total.

Stay: Angleterre Hotel, St Petersburg (Superior)

Day 4
Tsarskoe Selo

Today's excursion is to Tsarskoe Selo (Catherine Palace, located in Pushkin), the construction of which started in 1717. A park in the French style was laid out around it. In the middle of the 18th century ‘Tsarskoe Selo' became the official Royal residence. Not far from Catherine's Palace there is the Lyceum where the great poet Alexander Pushkin studied. The Lyceum is open for visitors.

Again your private transfer will pick you up from the hotel. Total duration of this excursion is around four hours.
