About

Recommended for:
Activity adventure | Exploration cruise | Jungle | Wildlife

This is your chance to pair the wildlife and unique natural beauty of the world’s mightiest rainforest and most biodiverse archipelago. Staying in Ecuador’s finest Amazonian lodge, you’ll meet indigenous peoples and spot everything from parrots to giant otters on canoe rides, boardwalk hikes and night safaris. Then, in the Galápagos, you’ll travel in one of just eight private-balcony cabins on a brand-new luxury trimaran. Expect to spot the likes of lava lizards and giant tortoises on snorkelling, kayaking and hiking trips. Of course, gourmet full-board dining and naturalist-led excursions are included throughout the itinerary. You’ll even enjoy a pair of luxury stays among Quito’s colonial charms, with everything knitted together by included transfers and flight hops.

Day by day itinerary

Day 1
Depart UK

After making use of your complimentary airport lounge access, board your overnight flight to Ecuador.

Day 2
Quito

On arrival in the Ecuadorian capital, you’ll be met by a private driver for the short journey to your boutique accommodation – an antique Spanish townhouse. While you might want to rest up with its rooftop cocktail bar, there’s also the option of exploring the city. Let us arrange a private tour of Quito’s UNESCO-listed old town, where 17th-century colonial facades look down on bustling plazas and grand churches. You might even want to head out through verdant Andean valleys to the equator itself.

Stay: Hotel Mama Chuchara (Superior)

Day 3
Quito/Ecuadorian Amazon

After breakfast, a private driver will see you to the airport for the flight into the Ecuadorian Amazon. And, you’ll be assisted at each side, with an included transfer bringing you to the dock for your trip along the Napo River, by canoe, to your bamboo accommodation – Ecuador’s finest eco lodge. Expect stunning jungle views, a private balcony and a personal welcome by the manager, complete with snacks and refreshing juice. You’ll also begin your series of included excursions, with your naturalist guide leading you on a jungle trail, showcasing the local wildlife. Then, it’s time for the first of your gourmet full-board meals – a multi-course dinner prefixed by bar snacks and informed by ultra-fresh local produce.

Day 4
Ecuadorian Amazon

Days begin early in the jungle, with breakfast followed by a naturalist-led trip to the lodge’s observation tower. Reaching up 120 feet high, it offers a privileged view of the canopy and its resident primates and colourful birdlife. Then, trail walks will bring you among medicinal plants and spectacular black-water lagoons home to giant otters. It’s all brought to life by your native guide. Then, after lunch, a walk around the lodge’s river-side setting showcases the mammals and monkeys that come for a late-afternoon drink. Today’s night canoe ride is a particular highlight, pairing sunset views with nocturnal wildlife picked out by spotlight. The stargazing is also excellent.

Day 5
Ecuadorian Amazon

This morning you’ll be brought back on the motorised canoe to a nearby salt lick, where hundreds of parrots and parakeets are drawn to the mineral-rich soil. You’ll then learn about the human side of the Amazon, with a visit to a Kichwa community centre where you’ll meet with the region’s indigenous people. This afternoon’s walk will then focus on the local primates, with sights of squirrel and capuchin monkey families sound-tracked by the distinctive call of the howler monkey. There’s also a chance to spot the impossibly cute pygmy marmoset (the world’s smallest monkey), along with the likes of toucans and macaws. It’s all capped off with a night walking safari.

Day 6
Ecuadorian Amazon/Quito

After a final gourmet breakfast, you’ll be brought back up the river to Coca, enjoying one final scenic journey through the rainforest. Although there won’t be time today, remember that you’ll have had plenty of free time to use the lodge’s kayaks, swim in the lagoon or simply enjoy a massage. Then, after your included transfer to the airport, you’ll fly to Quito where you’ll be met by a private driver for the trip back to your boutique accommodation. If you didn’t manage to explore on your first day here, you’ll have time today, perhaps to take in the colourful markets.

Day 7
Quito/Cruising the Galápagos

Following an included private transfer, you’ll fly out to the Galápagos where you’ll be met and brought aboard your luxury trimaran; it's among the newest ships in the region. As one of just 16 passengers, you’ll enjoy Jacuzzi soaks, private-balcony views and indulgent full-board dining. It’s all served up by a near one-to-one staff-to-guest-ratio. You’ll also begin the first of your included, naturalist-led shore excursions, with a trip onto Bartolome Island. Hiking up Pinnacle Rock, you can expect to spot the likes of sea lions, lava lizards and great frigate birds flying overhead. Throughout your trip, you’ll also have the included option to snorkel or kayak.

Day 8
Cruising the Galápagos

Today you’ll make land on the distinct red-gravel beach of Rabida Island. The snorkelling here is particularly good, offering the chance to immerse yourself among manta rays, sea turtles and great schools of tropical fish. Back on land, the flamingo lagoon is a particular highlight – as are the blue-footed boobies. It’s then on to Santiago Island’s Egas Port, where Galápagos hawks swirl overhead and trails lead between gorgeous tide pools full of fauna. Keep your eyes out for marine iguanas and fur seals.

Day 9
Cruising the Galápagos

You’ll have today to explore Genovesa Island, starting with Darwin Bay. Here, a white-sand coral beach leads the way to hiking trails through mangrove forests – home to red-footed boobies and swallow-tailed gulls. It all culminates in a series of tidal pools, home to playfully swimming sea lions. Your next port of call on the island is then El Barranco. Also known as Prince Philip’s Steps, it’s one of the few visitor sites where all three booby species can be seen. The short-eared owl is a further highlight.

Stay: M/T Camila (Deluxe)

Day 10
Cruising the Galápagos

With a final full day in the Galápagos, you’ll begin at Mosquera Islet – a coral reef formed by a volcanic uprising. Despite being just 160 metres across at its narrowest, it’s home to one of the largest populations of sea lions and orcas can often be seen hunting off the shoreline. It’s then time for a true trip favourite – Santa Cruz Island. Reaching elevations of up to 1,500 metres, it’s rich in vegetation, hill and volcanoes, making it a distinct contrast to the lava-hardened beaches of the rest of the archipelago. Alongside lava lizards, the prime attraction here is the giant Galápagos tortoise.

Stay: M/T Camila (Deluxe)

Day 11
Cruising the Galápagos and depart for UK

Your last excursion in the Galápagos will be on North Seymour, an island formed by submarine lava expelled through the ocean floor. The arid vegetation is the spectacular setting for everything from marine and land iguanas to sea lions and colourful birds. You’ll then pause at the islands’ Interpretation Center before being brought to the airport for your flight back home via Guayaquil, on the Ecuadorian mainland.
