About

Recommended for:
Activity adventure | All-inclusive | Christmas | Family | Lapland | Northern Lights | Santa | Winter

Departing on December 23rd, this festive break is Christmas at its very best. Staying in log-cabin-style accommodation in the depths of Finnish Lapland, your family will be treated to a full spread of included excursions. Alongside a private audience with the man himself, you'll enjoy everything from dogsledding and snowmobiling to reindeer sleigh rides and cookie baking workshops. You'll even toast marshmallows on a roaring fire and visit a magical ice hotel. It's all interspersed with hearty full-board dining and, hopefully, evening appearances of the Northern Lights.

Day by day itinerary

Day 1
Fly to Kittila (23 Dec)

After enjoying your complimentary airport lounge access, you'll fly out to Kittila in the depths of Finnish Lapland. Then, on arrival, an included transfer will bring you to the snowy wilds of Harriniva and your cosy pine-clad hotel. Check in to your snug wood-cabin-style room where your winter clothing will be waiting, before heading to the ultra-cosy restaurant where your full-board dining begins with a hearty buffet dinner. Expect local Lappish specialities alongside international favourites. Why not try some late-night tobogganing, accompanied by – luck permitting – the dazzling ballet of the Northern Lights.

Day 2
Husky sledding, winter activities and Santa (24 Dec)

Christmas Eve brings celebrations galore, and this morning you’ll begin by meeting Harriniva's resident huskies. After some expert tuition, adults will be handed the reigns to mush through the winter wonderland, with the children pulled behind by the guides. There's also plenty of time to meet the oh-so-friendly dogs and their pups. Then, after lunch, you'll have an entire afternoon of snowy fun, enjoying the use of snowshoes, cross-country skis and toboggans, which are available anytime. The ice-hockey is a further favourite and there are even mini snowmobiles for the kids. Then, it's time for the trip highlight – a private visit to Santa. A snowmobile sled ride will bring you deep into the woods, with the elves pointing you towards his hidden cabin. Here, you'll tuck into pancakes cooked over the open fire and the kids will receive their present from the man himself. Don't worry, he'll make a return over your special Christmas dinner this evening, with a sack full of presents for all, young and old. The traditional Finnish dishes are a further highlight.

Day 3
Christmas Day & snowmobiling (25 Dec)

Christmas Day begins, naturally, with a leisurely breakfast, followed by a snowmobile safari. After expert tuition, you'll head into the wilderness, driving in pairs and swapping halfway as you navigate deep into the frozen remotes. There are also plenty of stops for photo opportunities and playing in the knee-deep snow, with children  pulled along in a sled behind your guide. Then, on your return, you'll head down to a traditional kota hut by the river, where you'll toast marshmallows and drink hot chocolate by the open fire, enjoying the chance to make some Christmas keepsakes. Then, for Christmas dinner itself, you'll be treated to the regional classics. And, while the Finns might not do crackers and hats, the possibility of the aurora is magical enough.

Day 4
Reindeer sleigh, ice village & cookie baking (26 Dec)

Boxing Day this year will be especially thrilling, beginning with a trip to Finland's oldest reindeer farm, reached by an included transfer. Here, you'll enjoy a magical sleigh ride through the snowy forest and across the frozen lake before you take in the reindeer museum, feed these adorable creatures and try your hand at lassoing. Your next stop is then a magical ice village, where igloo rooms, a frozen bar and a spectacularly carved restaurant are all ethereally lit. It's the evocative setting for today's lunch. Then, returning to your hotel, you'll warm back up with a cookie-baking workshop and an arts-and-crafts session – perfect for making some mementos. It all concludes with a final hearty dinner.

Day 5
