With so many attractions in such a small country, all strung together by stunning views of mountainous landscapes and the sparkling beaches of the Adriatic coast, the beautiful and relatively unexplored country of Montenegro is the perfect destination for a self-drive holiday. This weeklong tour explores the fabulous Bay of Kotor, the beaches to the south and the scenic peaks of Montenegro's mountainous interior, where you'll have the chance to enjoy rafting, biking, horse riding and trekking. Any aspect can be changed to suit your personal tastes and interests.
Day by day itinerary
UK > Kolasin
After enjoying complimentary airport lounge access, fly to Tivat, collect your hire car and drive to Kolasin via Podgorica and the Moraca Canyon, with an optional stop for lunch along the route at Rijeka Crnojevica, before continuing to the Moraca Monastery before arriving into Kolasin.
Next day after breakfast, you will be taken to find Eko Katun Vranjak, a group of small traditional cottages located below the mountain peak of Troglava with magnificent views. Katun Vranjak is an ideal start point for hiking tours to the other major peaks of Bjelasica Mountain.
You will be taken by jeep to Eko Katun Vranjak, from where you will start an easy hiking tour on the Bjelasica peaks and return to Katun to enjoy the traditional Montenegrin food typical for this region
Take time to enjoy the scenic drive inland to the mountain village of Kolasin, on the edge of Biogradska Gora National Park, which has at its heart 1,600 hectares of virgin woodland - one of Europe's last remaining rainforests. Spend three nights on a half-board basis at Bianca Resort & Spa. Rooms offer wonderful views of the Bjelasica Mountains and facilities include a vast spa, pool and fitness centre, international and traditional Montenegrin restaurants, and a selection of bars and lounges. This is Montenegro's adventure capital and activities include white-water rafting, mountain biking, horse riding, trekking and archery.

Continue through spectaculat Tara Canyon towards famous Djudjevica Tara Bridge. Enroute you can stop off for a visit to small charming monastery Dobrilovina

Durmitor National Park
After breakfast enjoy an easy hike through Durmitor National Park, including a visit to the 3 Durminor Lakes - Zmije (Snake Lake), Barno and Black Lake as its central feature. Its colour is due to its depth and thick forest surroundings. The lake lies at the foot of Durmitor massif making a picturesque sitte especially in nice weather when the mountaine peaks mirror on its calm surface
The walking lasts 3.5 hours, you will hear famous legend about the lakes, a bit about vegetation and experience some amazing view

Ostrog Monastery & Skadar Lake National Park

Today you are heading towards the coastal part of the country. Your first stop today will be Ostrog Monastery – which is an absolute MUST VISIT in Montenegro - the biggest pilgrimage site on the Balkans. After the brief visit to the Monastery you will continue towards Virpazar – a tiny charming town located on the Skadar Lake – and this is the third national park you are going to visit on this tour. Take a two hours boat tour to the village of Vranjina and Lesendro fortress, and upon return to Virpazar visit the small family owned vineyard and wine cellar where you will be able to taste 3 different types of wine produced by the family owning the cellar. Besides wine you will be able to taste the delicious Montenegrin products such as prosciutto, cheese and olives, and few different types of bread. From here you will continue towards Kotor via tunnel Sozina, passing by beautiful town of Petrovac, Sveti Stefan Island and Budva

Start your tour by exploring the Old Town of Budva first.
As one of the oldest settlements in the Adriatic region and the centre of Montenegro’s tourism, Budva is surely at the top of many visitors` list of places to see. The tour will take you through the narrow allies and squares of the Old Town where you will hear about the turbulent history of Budva and its evolution from a small Greek colony in the 4th c. BC to the best-known spot on the Montenegrin coast. This is the place where every corner under the sturdy town walls is a sight unto itself. The tour continues towards Cetinje – the former capital of Montenegro. There you will visit the King Nicola’s museum and hear the stories about the most famous Montenegrin royal family. From Cetinje continue the drive towards Lovcen National Park. You can the top of the mountain Lovcen to visit the Mausoleum dedicated to the famous poet and ruler of Montenegro – Petar II Petrovic Njegos. From the mountain top, on a perfect sunny day you are able to see the whole Boka Bay.

Upon return from the Mountain top you will drive through the village of Njegusi and passing the Old Road – the famous 25 serpentines from which you will experience the stunning views over the Kotor Bay and San Giovanni fortress.

Return to your hotel in Kotor
