With so many attractions in such a small country, all strung together by stunning views of mountainous landscapes and the sparkling beaches of the Adriatic coast, the beautiful and relatively unexplored country of Montenegro is the perfect destination for a self-drive holiday. This weeklong tour explores the fabulous Bay of Kotor, the beaches to the south and the scenic peaks of Montenegro's mountainous interior, where you'll have the chance to enjoy rafting, biking, horse riding and trekking. Any aspect can be changed to suit your personal tastes and interests.
Day by day itinerary
After enjoying complimentary airport lounge access, fly to Tivat, collect your hire car and drive to Kotor – one of the best preserved medieval cities in the Adriatic. Grand Venetian mansions dominate the seafront and pretty stone churches are hidden among the cobbled streets. You'll stay just outside the city centre, right on the Bay of Kotor. It's a view showcased by your charming exposed-stone accommodation's sun terrace and pool.

Take time to enjoy the scenic drive inland to the mountain village of Kolasin, on the edge of Biogradska Gora National Park, which has at its heart 1,600 hectares of virgin woodland - one of Europe's last remaining rainforests. Spend three nights on a half-board basis at Bianca Resort & Spa. Rooms offer wonderful views of the Bjelasica Mountains and facilities include a vast spa, pool and fitness centre, international and traditional Montenegrin restaurants, and a selection of bars and lounges. This is Montenegro's adventure capital and activities include white-water rafting, mountain biking, horse riding, trekking and archery.

Returning to the coast, spend your last two nights at Hotel Avala Resort, overlooking the Adriatic and the atmospheric old town of Budva. This stretch of coastline is one of the most beautiful in the Mediterranean, with plenty of sandy beaches, hidden coves and empty bays to explore. Fly home from Tivat on day eight.
