Fethiye is a vibrant tourist centre that mixes the atmosphere of the Mediterranean with the impressive architecture of ancient Turkey. Built on the historic site of Telmessos, ancient rock tombs still crown the valley, providing you with and excellent vantage point looking out over the city to the coast.
Conveniently located for access to tourism hotspots on the Mediterranean Coast, Fethiye lies close to some of the region's most arresting ghost towns. During the Greco-Turkish war many were exiled, leaving the towns of Kaya Köyü and cliff-top Kadyanda deserted. Today these spots make an exciting day trip and serve as a haunting reminder of the past.
Many sites are best accessed by boat and hopping on a boat at the Fethiye harbour will take you out to Butterfly Valley with its limestone caves and clouds of butterflies, or onto secluded caves where you can swim, fish and even moor up for a night beneath the stars.
