Visit the Zambezi
A journey on the Zambezi River is, for many, a major Zambia travel highlight. Africa's fourth largest river provides the chance to experience the thrill of world-class white water rafting, the most extreme sections being the 23 rapids in Batoka Gorge. Canoe safaris and river fishing are other active choices.
Zambia's great river also offers more sedate activities - one of these being a sunset cruise on the African Queen. This luxury paddle steamer evokes the elegant age of travel and is a highly recommended inclusion for a Zambia holiday itinerary. It cruises on the river above Victoria Falls, with water birds and occasional big animals such as giraffes to be seen along the riverbank. It's a great way to spend an evening, sipping cocktails and savouring the dwindling light of another African day.
