Day by day itinerary
Johannesburg - Cape Town
Fly from Johannesburg to Cape Town, and check in to your hotel. You will spend the next four nights at The Queen Victoria or Cape Grace hotel, which are both located on the world famous V&A Waterfront in Cape Town - the ideal place to enjoy an evening meal or cocktail.
Today, take a half day Cape Town tour. Start with a visit to Table Mountain, during which your guide will point out the highlights of the famous view. After your descent, enjoy a scenic coastal drive through Clifton and Sea Point to the city centre, where you will visit the Green Market Square and the Company Gardens. Next, drive past the Houses of Parliament, the City Hall, the castle and the Slave Lodge before entering the Bo Kaap or Malay Quarter.
Cape Town - Cape Point Tour
Your full day Cape Point Tour starts with a drive along the Atlantic seaboard coastal road passing the pristine beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay and the 12 Apostles Peaks. Arrive at the fishing village of Hout Bay, visit Seal Island, drive over Chapman's Peak, and onto the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve that's home to a wide-range of antelope and birds, cape mountain zebra and baboons. Take the funicular to the lighthouse to see the meeting of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans at the Cape Point. Next visit Boulders Beach to see the Jackass penguins, travel through the naval base of Simonstown, then head to Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens.
Depart on a tour to the winelands today heading north to Paarl and stopping at the Anura Wine Estate for a cheese and wine tasting. Then head to Franschhoek and take a photo-stop en-route at the Groot Drakenstein Prison where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned.
The village of Franschhoek nestles amongst the mountains, and could almost be mistaken for Switzerland. After a short tour of the town, enjoy a second wine tasting followed by lunch and perhaps some fishing to catch fresh trout. After lunch, continue over the Hells Hoogte Mountain Pass to Stellenbosch where you can admire the Hottentots Holland Mountains, the white gabled Cape Dutch homesteads and the oak-lined streets and lanes. Time permitting, have a third wine tasting.
Today is free to enjoy at your leisure. You can also make the most of your hotel's facilities. If you're staying at the Queen Victoria Hotel, refresh yourself at its designer Africology Spa or lie by the swimming pool, surrounded by a beautifully manicured garden. At the Cape Grace Hotel & Spa, try the famous Afternoon Tea, enjoy the waterfront views from the terrace and restaurant and indulge in a luxury treatment at the Cape Grace Spa. Or perhaps take a day trip to Robben Island, which brims with Dutch heritage or get further under the skin of Cape Town.
