About

Recommended for:
All-inclusive | History & culture | Ocean cruise | Off the beaten track

This tailor-made itinerary combines the ultimate introduction to India with a luxury cruise into the heart of Southeast Asia. It all begins with an exclusive private tour, linking the Taj Mahal, Delhi’s colourful chaos and Rajasthan’s mighty forts with luxury hotels and private transfers. Then, flying to Mumbai, you’ll head aboard to indulge with open-bar drinks, full-board fine dining and complimentary activities that range from wine tastings to yoga classes. After pausing among Kerala’s backwater idyll, you’ll then hop over to Sri Lanka’s tea plantations before a stop among Myanmar’s glittering pagodas sees you on to a Thai paradise island. It all ends with the city greats of Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.

Day by day itinerary

Day 1
Depart UK

You’ll begin in style with complimentary airport lounge access before boarding your overnight flight to India.

Days 2-3
Delhi

On arrival, a private driver will see you to bring you to your luxury accommodation – Claridges, Delhi. First built in the middle of the 20th century, it offers dark-wood colonialism wrapped in lush green lawns. You’ll then begin your private tour the next day, heading into the bustle of Old Delhi where an evocative cycle rickshaw ride will see you between its colourful markets and historic sites. Jama Masjid, India’s largest mosque, is a vision of sandstone minarets and marble domes, while the 17th-century Red Fort hides a lavish palace among its imposing walls. You’ll then be brought back to the leafy boulevards of New Delhi, where UNESCO-listed minarets and Mughal tombs are interspersed with grand parliament buildings and the towering India Gate.

Stay: The Claridges, New Delhi (Superior)

Day 4
Agra

Today you’ll be brought out of Delhi, through the plains, to Agra, where your included touring begins with its eponymous 16th-century fort. Here, royal chambers perch atop a deep moat, offering commanding views across the city. Then, driving through Agra itself, you’ll enjoy a glimpse of local life playing out in bazars before you centre on that World Heritage Wonder – the Taj Mahal. Set on the banks of the Yamuna River, its grand domes and spindling towers are a highlight of any trip to the Subcontinent. You’ll then end the day in one of the city’s finest hotels; it features marble-accented rooms, an excellent spa and 35 acres of landscaped gardens.

Stay: ITC Mughal, Agra (Deluxe)

Day 5
Agra to Jaipur

You’ll begin today with a sunrise return to the Taj Mahal, watching as its iconic stonework glows in the dawn rays. Then, it’s on to Fatehpur Sikri. Once the walled capital of the great Mughal Empire, it was abandoned in the early 17th century, leaving its grand gates, imperial palace and mighty walls wonderfully preserved. Continuing to Jaipur, you’ll then find yourself in India’s “Pink City”, where you’ll stay right among its near-ancient walls in a 19th-century royal mansion. Expect antique furnishings and mosaic detailing throughout.

Stay: Samode Haveli, Jaipur (Superior)

Meals: B

Day 6
Jaipur

Today’s included touring begins with a visit to Amber Fort. Situated just above Jaipur, its terraces and ramparts map rolling contours, protecting its royal quarters. Then, returning to the city, you’ll focus on the UNESCO-listed Jantar Mantar Observatory, home to world’s largest sundial. Alongside the five-storied Palace of the Winds and its intricate lattice-work, you’ll also pay particular attention to the City Palace Complex and its blend of Mughal and Rajasthani architecture. It’s all built from that iconic pink sandstone and still the home of the royal family today. You’ll then end the day with a private transfer back to Delhi.

Stay: Holiday Inn, New Delhi International Airport (Superior)

Meals: B

Days 7-8
Mumbai

With your hotel specially chosen for its proximity to the airport, your included transfer will see you to your flight to Mumbai, where you’ll be met on arrival and brought aboard your luxury ship. With dinner, you’ll begin your menu of full-board dining, enjoying everything from sushi and afternoon tea to seafood grills and Italian favourites. It’s all washed down with open-bar fineries, where cocktails are accompanied by live pianists. Over the two days here you’ll also have plenty of time to explore Mumbai, taking in some of the world’s most spectacular colonial architecture, played out over train stations, courthouses and palatial hotels.

Stay: Crystal Symphony (Deluxe)

Day 9
At sea

With a day spent cruising the Arabian Sea, you’ll have some time to acquaint yourself with the ship’s superlative entertainment. The lecture series is excellent, the theatre productions full-scale and the cinema shows new releases. That’s on top of the casino and the cigar lounge. Of course, there’s also plenty of time to relax in your plush, steward-served accommodation; even the entry-level grades offer picture-window views, luxury amenities and 24-hour complimentary room service.

Stay: Crystal Symphony (Deluxe)

Day 10
Cochin

Cochin’s natural harbour has attracted traders for centuries, something evidenced by Jewish synagogues, colonial architecture and great Chinese fishing nets still operated by hand and by foot. There’s also the option of taking in traditional dances on a harbour cruise. However, it’s a thatched houseboat trip along Kerala’s famous backwaters that really stands out, offering a privileged glimpse into river life. You’ll wind along impossibly verdant fields, passing traditional villages and an abundance of birdlife.

Day 11
At sea

Cruising south along the Indian coast, you’ll have the opportunity to make use of the enrichment options available onboard. Alongside dance lessons, staff are on hand to lend their expertise in the computer lab, bridge hall and the learning institute, which offers everything from painting to writing classes – all complimentary. The guided wine tastings are also excellent, while the included Wi-Fi lets you stay connected.

Day 12
Colombo, Sri Lanka

You’ll make land in Sri Lanka with its fascinating capital. Although the Portuguese, Dutch and British have all left their mark in colonial architecture and railway stations, there’s plenty of the homegrown here, from its colourful markets to its statue-dotted parks. You might also want to turn out of the city, uncovering the country’s tea-plantation hinterlands, overseen by historic hill stations.

Stay: Crystal Symphony (Deluxe)

Days 13-14
At sea

Leaving Sri Lanka behind, you’ll have two days to relax poolside with the free-flowing drinks. Alternatively, consider booking on to a spa treatment, where sauna facilities are paired with massages and hot-stone therapy.

Stay: Crystal Symphony (Deluxe)

Days 15-17
Yangon, Myanmar

Sailing up the mighty Irrawaddy, you’ll arrive into the Burmese capital – Yangon. Through decades of self-isolation it’s retained all the charm of yesteryear, with crumbling European architecture interspersed with bustling markets and great golden spires. Indeed, at nearly 100 metres in height, the entire city seems to defer to the monolithic Shwedagon Pagoda. You’ll have three days to fully explore here, perhaps finding time to rest up in the lake-dotted parks or head out to Bago – the country’s ancient capital that’s dotted with painted buddhas and hundreds of ornate temples.

Stay: Crystal Symphony (Deluxe)

Meals: B L D

Day 18
At sea

Cruising over the Andaman Sea, be sure to avail yourself of your ship’s luxury facilities. There’s also plenty of ways to stay in shape, with the paddle tennis court, outdoor lap pool and the putting green, where PGA-standard tuition is offered. Of course, the fitness centre is excellent, offering the likes of yoga and Pilates classes alongside the usual Technogym equipment. Lastly, there’s even a beauty salon onboard.

Stay: Crystal Symphony (Deluxe)

Meals: B L D

Day 19
Phuket, Thailand

You’ll land into Thailand with Phuket – an island jewel fringed by palm trees and powder-white beaches. But, it’s much more than beach good looks, with excursions bringing you between cacao and pineapple plantations – fertile grounds that inspire the Thai cooking classes on offer. Then there’s also plenty of sights, ranging from Chinese shrines to Portuguese mansions, while the underwater world rewards snorkelers and divers with a whole rainbow of fish.

Stay: Crystal Symphony (Deluxe)

Meals: B L D

Day 20
Penang, Malaysia

Penang is Malaysia's very own island idyll. However, when you look beyond the pristine sands and untouched jungle you'll find George Town – a city with a fascinating past that lives on today in British forts, Chinese temples and a world-famous food culture. Here, all of Malaysia's many influences meet in mouth-watering hawker vendors and superb Indian restaurants.

Stay: Crystal Symphony (Deluxe)

Meals: B L D

Day 21
Kuala Lumpur

Via Port Kelang, you’ll arrive into the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur. Although dominated by the twin spectacles of the Petronas Towers, there’s plenty of intrigue between the glass and steel. Street-food vendors serve up steaming claypot dishes, golden-domed mosques sit beside impressive cricket wickets and Malaysian temples come clouded in incense smoke. As you might have guessed, it’s all informed by a truly multicultural society where grand colonial architecture butts up against colourful Indian enclaves.

Stay: Crystal Symphony (Deluxe)

Meals: B L D

Day 22
Singapore

You’ll end in style with one of the world’s city greats – Singapore. Once just a small fishing village, centuries of trade has brought European architecture, Chinese temples and glittering Arabic quarters, all of which survive to this day. However, you might know Singapore for its modernity. Indeed, alongside its great, surfboard-capped skyscrapers, new developments have mixed in art-adorned marinas and the spectacular Gardens by the Bay. This collection of man-made “Supertrees” is linked together by canopy-level walkways, offering spectacular vantage points of a unique ecosystem. Be sure to cap it all off with a bite to eat at the hawker markets.
