Sublime Comporta, Grândola

Sublime by name, sublime by nature, which is a tall order, but this boutique property certainly lives up to it. There are just 14 super-chic bedrooms and suites at the Comporta, and a smattering of villas, the largest of which feature private pools. Some have indoor and outdoor fireplaces, and all are organic in feel, with varnished cement floors and lots of wood – cork walls and pine furniture inside, wooden decks outside. Windows are wall sized, bringing outdoors in, and the outdoors is glorious, 17 acres of wooded wilderness minutes away from a white beach.

The outdoor pool is spectacular and set amidst umbrella pines and extensive greenery, with a fire pit just behind, for evening fun. The spa is as sophisticated as the hotel, a calm space with a heated indoor pool, a sauna and indoor and outdoor treatment rooms.

One of Portugal’s best beaches is just steps away, and sand dunes and the fields of Comporta provide enchanting distractions. Dining is a treat too, in a restaurant with floor to ceiling windows and a menu based on local produce and classics with modern touches. Expect razor clams and oysters and catches of the day garnished with herbs from the hotel’s vegetable garden.
