Location
Nestled in the Constantia Valley winemaking region, this boutique retreat is among South Africa's finest hotels. Ideally located just a 20-minute drive from the heart of Cape Town, it confers a unique offering of wine, golf, spa and history. Indeed, the original building dates back to 1682 and is the oldest farm in the region, having been lovingly restored and declared a National Monument.
Accommodation
Offering the very best in country-style luxury, accommodation ranges from striking heritage suites and contemporary premier rooms to offerings in the original manor house. No matter which you choose, all rooms come equipped with en-suite bathrooms, a digital safe and complimentary WiFi. Family Rooms have one or two bedrooms, whilst Premier Rooms are plush, spacious and contemporary with views over the vineyards or golf course. Suites offer pure luxury. Premier Suites have a mini-bar and private patio, whilst the Cape Colonial Heritage Suite evokes the grandeur of the colonial period, with a series of generously proportioned rooms with wooden beam ceilings, a dining space and lounge.
Dining
The hotel is best known for its fantastic wine – as it has a vineyard that's produced a much-loved range of wines since 1695. In terms of dining, there's the award winning TRYN that offers 'contemporary heritage' cuisine that embraces the past and evolves with the present to maintain a fresh and innovative menu. Bistro 1682 serves tapas and bistro-style cuisine. The menu is constantly evolving, keeping to seasonal produce and featuring inventive dishes. The bistro is adjacent to the winery, spilling into the indigenous gardens with terraced dining area and reflective water features.
Facilities
There are plenty of opportunities to get stuck in to some outdoors activities, including hiking, shark cage diving, helicopter flights and mountain biking. Also, the Steenberg has its own private Golf Club situated amid the Constantia Valley's vineyard verdure. The course is consistently named one of the best in South Africa, with its perfectly manicured greens and fairways making full use of natural features. For further relaxation, there's the Steenberg Spa, with its five beautifully fitted rooms, each offering distinctive experiences. And finally, don't forget to relax and sample the wines in the Tasting Lounge with its water features and gardens.
