All-inclusive | Beach
Comprising a series of white-dome pavilions, this boutique Elewana offering is set amid 50 acres of lush tropical gardens on a pristine Zanzibar beach. The Indian Ocean views are fantastic, something showcased everywhere from the 25-metre infinity pool and waterfall bar to the elegant suites, each featuring its very own private plunge pool. It’s all wrapped up in all-inclusive indulgence, with butler served dining washed down with sundowner drinks. This is strictly adults-only.
If you’ve sensed a certain Scandinavian minimalism, you’d be right; the Elewana Kilindi was originally designed for Benn Andersson – a founding member of ABBA. However, with the pavilions’ sweeping arches, there’s more than a nod to the region’s Middle Eastern heritage. The hotel’s full-board dining also showcases Zanzibari flavours at their best, with the likes of fragrant curries and superlative seafood washed down with all-inclusive drinks. The sundowners are superb.
It’s all delightfully boutique, with just 15 rooms available. In each, wide-arched, glassless windows invite in spectacular views over the Indian Ocean, along with the gentle ocean breeze and the soundtrack of Kilindi’s colourful birdlife from your private garden. Don’t worry, there are still wooden-slatted shutters. Then, each suite also comes with its own plunge pool, rainfall shower room and personal butler, on hand to arrange activities and serve your meals wherever your fancy takes you.
Indeed, you’ll have complimentary use of the hotel’s kayaks and paddle boards, bringing you out onto those bathtub-warm waters. There’s also a full range of optional excursions available, from sunset dhow cruises and guided tours of historic Stone Town to dolphin safaris and spice-plantation visits. Then, on your return, be sure to soothe any sightseeing aches with the spa; there’s a full range of treatments available.
