Location
As you pull up at the hotel’s front on the Grand Canal it’s impossible not to be impressed by Ca’Sagredo’s grandeur. It’s truly palatial luxury that overlooks Venice’s most famous waterway, along with its Rialto Market – where the chef sources much of his fine ingredients. It’s all storybook scenes of old. You’ll also be just a few minutes from city’s famous museums, fashions boutiques and the beauty of St. Mark’s Square where successive architectural wonders vie for your attention. Don’t forget to take some time out with Venice’s more understated beauty; losing yourself in its backalleys is as atmospheric as many of its famous sights.
Accommodation
This 15th century palace has been declared a National Monument and still preserves all the untouched beauty of an ancient noble residence. Each of its 42 magnificently appointed rooms are realised in classic Venetian style, fitted with period-style furnishings and rich fabrics in keeping with the building’s legacy. Choose between views of the inner courtyard, the charming square of Campo Santa Sofia or, best of all, the Grand Canal itself. The suites are particularly impressive, featuring grand painted ceilings, chandeliers and gilded furniture.
Dining
At L’Alcova Restaurant you’ll dine on a panoramic terrace overlooking, you guessed it, the Canal Grande. Here you’ll enjoy traditional Venetian cuisine accompanied by a well-curated wine list with labels from across Italy’s finest regions. It’s all watched over by the careful eye of chef Damiano Bassano who’s worked in Michelin starred restaurants across the world. Highlights include wine-scented tuna medallions and carnaroli risotto with prawns, burrata mozzarella and almonds. For something special, book onto a chef’s tour of the next-door Rialto Market, a cooking class or a dinner at the chef’s table.
Facilities
After dinner, make your way upstairs for the Rooftop Terrace. Overlooking the terracotta jumble of rooftops that has become something of a Venetian icon, it’s the ideal place to enjoy a Bellini, spritz or fruit cocktail from the next-door Rialto Market. Back inside, whether it’s the frescoed ballroom and lounge, the imposing marble staircases or the cherubic statues, the hotel positively oozes regality. It’s a treasure trove of antiquity, from the Byzantine façade to the 18th century staircase. It will come as no surprise that it’s host to a rich variety of artworks.
