This tailor-made safari combines excellent game-viewing with some of Africa’s most breathtaking scenery. Staying in a combination of lodges and luxury mobile camps (the best type of accommodation for tracking game on the move), the trip is a safari in its purest, truest sense - the word means ’journey’ in the KiSwahili language.
From the bustling hub of Arusha town, head to Lake Manyara beneath the western escarpment of the Great Rift Valley. Legions of pink flamingos are often seen on the lake and there are healthy populations of elephant, buffalo and wildebeest. A mobile camp in the Serengeti will then allow you to track game as it moves across the plains, while a stay on the edge of the Ngorongoro Crater will offer views to leave you speechless.

Day 1: Arusha
Arrive in Tanzania and transfer from Kilimanjaro airport to the attractive town of Arusha, which sits in the shadow of mounts Meru and Kilimanjaro. Explore the markets or the town’s many restaurants.

Days 2–3: Lake Manyara
Fly to Lake Manyara National Park, famous for its tree-climbing lions and huge herds of elephants. The park is also home to more than 400 species of birdlife and the shores of this tranquil lake attract large numbers of pink flamingos.

Days 4–5: Serengeti
Serengeti means ’endless plains’ in the local Masai language and you’ll understand why as soon as you see it. Arriving by light aircraft you’ll be met at the airstrip and transferred to your camp. We particularly recommend Serengeti Under Canvas, which allows you to go where the animals are. Three Bedouin-style camps, each offering six en suite tents with double beds, are planned according to the projected movements of the Great Migration.
This wildlife spectacle happens each and every year, when an estimated three million antelope - mostly wildebeest - make the journey from Tanzania to Kenya’s Masai Mara. With three days at the camps, your expert guides will always aim to put you in the midst of the migration.

Days 6–7: Ngorongoro Crater
Fly to the Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area. The crater itself, once a giant volcano, plays host to more than 30,000 protected animals, including black rhino, large herds of elephants and black-maned lions. Enjoy game drives on the crater floor, see the Olduvai Gorge or arrange to go and visit a traditional Masai village.

Day 8: Arusha
Fly back to Arusha where you’ll have the use of a day room at a hotel before your onward flight, or extend your holiday with a stay on the picture-perfect islands of Zanzibar.
