From 03 July this year the airline will launch thrice weekly services from London Heathrow and London Gatwick via Lisbon to Viracopos-Campinas International Airport, 100 km north of Sao Paulo.
The new route will increase services to the city of Sao Paulo by offering passengers a wider choice of flights in the same way Luton and Stansted airports service London.
TAP Portugal currently operates 67 flights from London into Brazil and has the strongest presence of any European airline within the country.
A spokesman for the airline said TAP Portugal was very happy to be launching the service and proud to be the first European carrier to operate from the airport.
He said the airport authority had been very helpful undertaking the necessary steps to prepare for longhaul international operations and that all parties including customs, security and baggage services were working at full capacity to be ready for the first flights.
The announcement to launch services to another Sao Paulo area airport came as a surprise to many in the aviation industry who had expected TAP Portugal to extend its network to Belam, Manaus, or Sao Luis in the north.
