New technology will allow Virgin Blue customers to make flight bookings, changes and cancellations across the carrier’s network from both mobile phones and smartphones, such as Blackberries and iPhones.
The new service offers mobile check-in, seat selection and gate boarding via a scannable 2D barcode, which will feature key flight information such as flight number, boarding time, seat number and arrival time at destination.
The service is currently available to customers on direct flights between Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and was launched this week via ‘mobile.virginblue.com.au’ along with a special Blackberry application.
Virgin Blue CEO Brett Godfrey said: "We are excited to be the first airline in the country to be offering a full suite of mobile options, in particular the ability for people to actually make a flight booking, check themselves in on their way to the airport and then go straight to boarding with their 2D barcode."
