Activity adventure | Natural world | Northern Lights | Off the beaten track | Wildlife | Winter
Travel to the ultimate Arctic destination, Svalbard, on this action-packed winter holiday. You'll visit when it's at its most magical, shrouded in the blue haze of the polar nights, when the sun never crowns above the horizon, meaning an ever-present blue twilight. Over four memorable days you'll have the chance to mush your own team of huskies as the aurora swirls overhead, snowmobile across the frozen wilds and explore the depths of shimmering ice caves. We've even included a snowcat adventure and a Northern Lights evening at the remote Camp Berentz where you'll enjoy a traditional dinner by the fire. Accommodation is wither at the stylish Radisson Blu Polar or the ultra-contemporary Funken Lodge, where alpine-luxe rooms are complemented by spectacular glacier views and the best dining in Svalbard.
Please note: Funken Lodge will be closed for maintenance between 03-23 January 2020. For travel during these dates, your stay will be at the Radisson Blu Polar.
Day by day itinerary
UK to Longyearbyen
After included VIP airport lounge access, take your flight from London to Longyearbyen (via Oslo), the world’s northernmost airport. Upon arrival, check in to your chosen hotel. Our top recommendation is the spectacular Funken Lodge, which boasts wonderful views of the epic Lars glacier alongside a stylish lounge and a celebrated champagne cellar. Tonight you'll enjoy an included three-course dinner at your hotel as you prepare for your first taste of Svalbard adventure.
Snowcat tour & optional activities
Following breakfast, you'll have a choice of optional excursions, with snowmobiling and husky sledding on offer; the latter involves a magical few hours spent mushing your own team of dogs under the star-studded sky. For more serene activities, head for a beer tasting at the world's northernmost brewery or visit the Svalbard Museum to discover more about this fascinating region. Then, in the late afternoon, explore snow-covered trails with an included snowcat tour in search of the Northern Lights, which, in the depths of winter, can appear at any time of day or night.
Optional activities & Northern Lights evening at Camp Barentz
After breakfast, opt for more excursions to help you explore the Arctic landscapes – perhaps head out snowshoeing or explore a glittering ice cave with an expert guide. This evening we've included an enchanting wilderness night at Camp Barentz. Located far from any light pollution, you'll enjoy a complimentary traditional dinner and hot drinks as you hear stories about the aurora before stepping out to catch, with luck, the ethereal ballet itself.
