It starts in the bustling, fjord-side city of Tromsø, where optional cable car rides and bewery tours will showcase this gateway to the north. Then, travelling on to Svalbard’s tiny capital, Longyearbyen, you’ll have the chance to savour the Midnight Sun and enjoy a scenic cruise to Templefjord and Tunabreen where you’ll learn about the nature, history, hunters and wildlife of Spitsbergen.
Day by day itinerary
Days
1-2
Tromso
Arrive in Tromsø and spend an evening exploring the city under the Midnight Sun or in one of the city's fine restaurants – we recommend Fiskekompaniet and Emma's Dream Kitchen. You might also like to visit Mack Brewery, the world's northernmost brewery, for a beer or two. The next day, take the cable car up Storsteinen Mountain for panoramic views of the city or visit the Polaria Arctic Aquarium, which is home to fish species native to the Barents Sea and a group of bearded seals.

Longyearbyen
From Tromso, fly north to Longyearbyen, the largest settlement in Spitsbergen, where you'll check into the super-stylish Funken Lodge for a three-night stay. With views over the Lars Glacier, interiors furnished in the latest Scandinavian chic and a restaurant reputed to be the best in town, it's a wonderful base from which to explore Spitsbergen's frozen wilderness. And, if you do need to pop into town, you're just a ten-minute walk away.

Longyearbyen & Pyramiden
Spend the next two days discovering Longyearbyen at your own pace, perhaps enjoying an optional hike or wildlife-watching trip. And, to help make the most of your stay, on one day we've included a boat trip out to the Russian settlement of Pyramiden. Travelling in a hybrid speedboat, which boasts some of the greenest technology in the market, you'll take in the dramatic landscapes around the Nodenskiold glacier before getting a sense of Pyramiden's once-rich mining heritage as you wander between its austere Soviet-era buildings. You never know, you might even catch a glimpse of a polar bear.
