Day 1
Bergen

Arrive in the Norwegian city of Bergen, the starting point of your 12-day Hurtigruten Cruise. Check into your cabin and begin your journey north, anticipating the many winter adventures that lie in wait.

Day 2
Alesund

Navigate through the skerries and islands of Norway's stunning west coast. Among the ports visited today, the art nouveau city of Ålesund is sure to be a highlight. It's also the gateway to the vertiginous Geirangerfjord, considered by many to be Norway's most dramatic.

Day 3
Trondheim

There's much to see in the ancient royal city of Trondheim, from Nidaros Cathedral to the wooden houses and narrow streets of Bakklandet. The colourful storehouses that line the river contrast beautifully against the winter snow and make for some wonderful photo opportunities.

Day 4
Arctic Circle and the Lofoten Islands

Today you'll cross the Arctic Circle en route to Svolvær in the Lofoten Islands - a beautiful archipelago known for its granite cliffs, sandy beaches and traditional red rorbu (fishermen's cabins). As you head towards the islands you'll have the chance to learn more about the aurora borealis and indulge in an authentic Lofotr Viking Feast. If the weather permits, you'll also sail to the entrance of Trollfjord, where you'll enjoy more food in the form of freshly made fish cakes.

Day 5
Tromsø

After a morning stop in Finnsnes you'll continue north to Tromsø, the 'Gateway to the Arctic', where you'll have the chance to take part in an exciting dogsledding excursion, or a trip to Polaria, a fascinating Arctic aquarium (please note these excursions are an additional cost). As you continue your cruise along the coast, gather on deck with your fellow passengers to search for the Northern Lights.

Day 6
North Cape

Today you'll arrive at Honningsvåg and have the option to take part in an excursion which sets out for the North Cape, the northernmost point of mainland Europe. Here you'll join a presentation on Sami culture and history, told using pictures, words and music. Later, you'll pass the Finnkirka rock formation, which is sacred to the Sami people, before arriving in Kjollefjord. Here you'll have the chance to enjoy a snowmobile tour (available from 01 March) to Mehamn where you might catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights.

Day 7
Kirkenes

The vistas and sea life become more dramatic as you approach Kirkenes, the voyage turning point, just a few miles from the Russian border. Kirkenes is home to the wonderful Snow Hotel as well as being the base for several exciting winter excursions, including dogsledding, snowmobiling and a guided tour to the Russian border. As your journey turns and heads back south towards Bergen, the nighttime ports on the northbound journey will be visited during the day.

Day 8
Hammerfest & Tromsø

Today's journey takes you to Hammerfest, arguably the world's northernmost town and one of several stops on the journey back to Tromsø. Stop along the way for an "energy coffee" and a short introduction to Melkøya - the northernmost natural gas terminal - before arriving in Tromsø. This evening you'll enjoy a very special musical experience, the Arctic Cathedral Midnight Concert.

Day 9
Lofoten Islands

Pass sheltered bays and stunning mountain landscapes, covered in the a thick blanket of snow, as you make your way back to the Lofoten Islands. Stop at Stokmarknes, home to the Hurtigruten Museum, before continuing through the picturesque channel of Raftsund. As a tribute to the region's fishing industry, the ship's chef will show you how to fillet the catch of the day.

Day 10
Seven Sisters

Enjoy breathtaking views of the Seven Sisters Mountains and the winter scenery of the Helgeland coast on your final day inside the Arctic Circle.

Day 11
Alesund

After an early stop at Trondheim, where you'll have the chance to visit Nidaros Cathedral where three queens and seven kings have been crowned, you'll stop at Kristiansund and sail past the snow-covered peaks of the Romsdal Alps en route to Ålesund.

Bergen

Head along the final stretch of Norway's coast, passing more beautiful winter scenery before arriving back in Bergen at the end of your Hurtigruten cruise.
