City | Food & wine | History & culture
Florence was the birthplace of the Renaissance and is estimated to hold more than half of Italy's most important artworks. The city is a hotbed of Italian history, culture and cuisine, and the surrounding Tuscan countryside produces some of Italy's finest wines, while historic Verona is renowned for its opera. Spend three days exploring Florence's piazzas and fortress-like palazzo on this six-day, twin-centre holiday, before travelling First Class by train to Verona, home to the Arena di Verona and the setting for three of Shakespeare's plays. In Florence you'll stay at the luxurious Il Salviatino in the hills overlooking the city, before moving to the stylish Relais Fra'Lorenzo, overlooking Verona's historic centre - both hotels provide some of the best panoramic views in Italy.
Day by day itinerary
Fly from London Gatwick to the city of Pisa. On arrival you may have time to explore the city centre including the famous leaning tower, before catching a train to Florence, around 45 minutes away. From Florence train station, make your way to Il Salviatino, ideally located on a hill on the outskirts of the city and just ten minutes by car from the historic centre. Enjoy an included three course dinner on your arrival day
Spend the next few days exploring Florence's numerous historic landmarks including the Duomo, the Ponte Vecchio and the city's imposing Palazzo Vecchio. You'll also have plenty of time to experience the region's famous cuisine and world-class wines with several vineyards close at hand in the beautiful Tuscan countryside and a number of hands-on cooking classes available throughout the city.
