This premium escorted tour and river cruise holiday with Travelmarvel by APT takes in the highlights of the Mekong River from Ho Chi Minh City – also known as Saigon – in Vietnam to Siem Reap in Cambodia. The Mekong is one of the world's great rivers and you'll explore it all alongside enjoying the likes of rickshaw tours of Tan Chau in the Mekong Delta before crossing into Cambodia and its capital Phnom Penh where you'll learn about the county's turbulent past and marvel at the city's spectacular Royal Palace. From here you'll continue upstream, past colourful riverside monasteries and charming villages to Siem Reap and the majestic temples of Angkor.

Day 1
UK/Ho Chi Minh City

After included VIP airport lounge access, board your flight to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, arriving on day two.

Day 2
Arrive Ho Chi Minh City

On arrival, you'll be met by a local representative who will transfer you to your hotel, Fusion Suites, all floor-to-ceiling windows and timber beams in rustically modern suites. This evening, get to know your fellow travellers and Tour Director during a welcome dinner, enjoying traditional Vietnamese fare.

Day 3
Cu Chi Tunnels, Ho Chi Minh City

After breakfast, enjoy a fully guided tour of the Cu Chi Tunnels, built by the Vietnamese resistance fighters during the Vietnam War. Discover the tiny tunnels used as part of a larger network  by the Viet Cong guerrillas as hiding places during combat as well as serving as supply routes, hospitals, weapon caches and living quarters for numerous guerrilla fighters.

Day 4
Embark ship at Ho Chi Minh

After breakfast, transfer to My Tho Port where you'll begin your spectacular cruise by boarding the stunning RV La Marguerite, host to a wonderful Panoramic Lounge, opulent spa and sun deck with a sprawling swimming pool and al fresco bar. This evening, perhaps enjoy a sundowner at the Saigon Lounge & Bar before traditional Asian cuisine in the form of a sumptuous dinner welcomes you on board.

Day 5
Cai Be, Sa Dec

This morning you'll be collected by a local boat that will transfer you to the town of Sa Dec. Here, you’ll visit Huynh Thuy Le's old house (once the lover of French writer Marguerite Duras, the namesake of RV La Marguerite) and visit a local brick factory and the Cao Dai Temple. This evening perhaps enjoy a Tai Chi class on the sun deck, observe a lecture on the fascinating but harrowing history of Vietnam and Cambodia, or enjoy a cooking demonstration by the executive chef who'll share the secret to a perfect Vietnamese spring roll.

Day 6
Tan Chau, Border Crossing

In the morning, transfer to a small boat for a journey along the tiny tributaries that snake around Tan Chau, and step ashore for a rickshaw tour. Spend the rest of the day onboard your luxury ship, before perhaps watching a fruit-carving demonstration while crossing the border into Cambodia. Continue cruising overnight to Phnom Penh.

Day 7
Phnom Penh

After breakfast, you'll head on a sobering journey to the infamous Killing Fields of Cambodia before visiting the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum on the site of the Khmer Rouge's notorious Security Prison 21. Discover the horrific history of Pol Pot's regime in the 1970s before visiting Phnom Penh's river promenade as your ship nears the capital. After lunch on board, disembark and enjoy a guided tour of the spectacular Royal Palace, dominating the skyline with intricate gold gilded walls and spectacular roofs.

Day 8
Phnom Penh, Koh Chen Village

Enjoy a relaxed morning either onboard the ship or discovering Phnom Pehn, including the famous Russian market. Later you'll cruise to the remote Koh Chen village, which specialises in silver and copperware. This evening enjoy a musical performance onboard the ship, where traditional Khmer song and dances are demonstrated.

Day 9
Oudong, Kampong Tralach

After breakfast, disembark in Prek K'dam and head on a morning tour of Oudong, the former royal capital of Cambodia. Here, you'll have the opportunity to visit the monastery for a Buddhist blessing. Afterwards, continue to Kampong Tralach for a visit to Wat Kampong Tralach Pleu and a charming ox-cart ride along the banks of the Tonle River.

Day 10
Kampong Chhnang

After breakfast, discover the fishing villages and wetlands near the town of Kampong Chhnang, all stunning countryside and provincial towns. This evening, indulge in a final, delicious farewell dinner with new-found friends at the end of your cruise.

Day 11
Siem Reap, Angkor

In the morning, disembark the ship and head to the ancient Angkor Thom and Bayon temples, a spectacular UNESCO World Heritage Site built for the kings of the 7th century. You'll stay at the magnificent Shinta Mani Resort, built to help the community and featuring contemporary artwork inspired by Angkor Wat in rooms. Tonight, perhaps enjoy a meal at the exceptional Kroya, offering tasting menu that highlight the best of the region's cuisine, from crispy fermented pork to sun-dried fish compressed with watermelon and mango. Relax at the indulgent spa with a number of creative treatments – the Khmer Coffee Scrub is a particular favourite, before perhaps heading out to explore the leafy French Quarter.

Angkor, Siem Reap

After breakfast, you'll have the chance to meet local underprivileged children in Siem Reap, supported by the organisation Opportunities of Development thru Art (ODA).
