Southeast Asia’s only luxury train will see you knit together electric Bangkok and Singapore’s slick modernity, travelling through the rainforests of Malaysia and mapping the glittering Gulf of Thailand. And, coming from the same people behind the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, you’ll be treated to a full spread of luxurious details. Step back to the golden age of rail travel with all-inclusive fine dining, open-bar delicacies and expert-led excursions included throughout, from museum visits to raft cruises. We’ve even included a pair of luxury stays in Bangkok and Singapore, with an extra free night and an afternoon tea at Raffles in the latter.

Day by day itinerary

Day 1
Depart UK

Begin in style with complimentary airport lounge access before your overnight flight to Thailand.

Days 2-3
Bangkok

You’ll be met, on arrival, by a private driver, who’ll bring you to your luxury accommodation. Both our options are delightfully sited on the city’s Chao Phraya River; expect marbled accents and spa indulgences. They’re the perfect secluded contrast to the Bangkok bustle, perhaps best evident across its floating markets, mouthwatering street food stalls and cultural enclaves, including a neon Chinatown. For quieter respite, ascend to one of its ultra-fashionable rooftop bars or get yourself to one of its gleaming temples to mix with saffron-robed monks. The golden spires of the Royal Palace are a special highlight.

Stay: Anantara Riverside (Superior) or Peninsula Bangkok (Deluxe)

Day 4
Depart Bangkok aboard the Eastern & Oriental Express

After a further day to explore the Thai capital, a private driver will bring you to Bangkok Railway Station where the Eastern & Oriental Express will be waiting on the platform, resplendent in its iconic green-and-gold livery. Your personal steward will then bring you to your private cabin – a world of Thai silks, Malaysian embroidery and glistening darkwood. You might want to change for the evening before settling in to the first of your all-inclusive, multi-course dinners. Expect the likes of beef medallions or ayam biryani washed down with open-bar wines. Perhaps end the evening with a piano-accompanied drink in the bar car before retiring to your berth, now converted into cosy beds.

Stay: Eastern & Oriental Express (Deluxe)

Day 5
Kanchanaburi

You’ll wake this morning, as with each morning onboard, to a Continental breakfast, served in the privacy of your cabin. Then, rolling into Kanchanaburi – a historic town in Thailand’s western remotes – you’ll be treated to the first of your included touring. There’s a full spread of options, from a visit to the famed River Kwai Bridge and the Thai-Burma Railway Museum to a bike ride through the impossibly verdant rice paddies, stopping off at a local farm. There’s even the opportunity to visit a wet market and rice noodle house, combining a raft cruise with a cooking class. Then, back on board for your gourmet lunch and dinner, you’ll sweep on through rural Thailand. Be sure to head for the open-air observation car for the best views, paired with open-bar drinks of course.

Day 6
Kuala Kangsa to Kuala Lumpur

After a breakfast in bed, you’ll have some time to cosy up with a good book in the Saloon Car – a tour-de-force of colonial extravagance. Having hopped over the Malaysian border, you’ll sweep through dense jungles to pause at the royal town of Kuala Kangsar. Here, your expert guides will lead you between the golden domes of the Ubudiah Mosque, the artistic treasures of the Sultan Shah Gallery and the Perak Royal Museum – a marbled palace now given over to showcasing the region’s regal heritage. Then, as your sweep down towards Kuala Lumpur, you’ll be treated to the last of your indulgent lunch and dinners, including a glamorous farewell evening meal. Cap it all off with a final cocktail, served by the resident mixologists.

Days 7-8
Singapore

Following your steward-served breakfast, you’ll end your journey in Singapore. Here, you’ll be met again by a private driver, who’ll see you to your luxury accommodation, with plenty of time to explore the city proper. Visit the vermillion temples that dot buzzing Chinatown, stroll through Little India awash with colourful colonial houses and visit humble hawker markets that dish up some of Asia’s finest fare. Then, come daytime, take advantage of the city's myriad green spaces, from Gardens by the Bay's indoor waterfall to the UNESCO-listed Singapore Botanical Gardens, a 158-year-old tropical haven that edges the iconic Orchard Road shopping street. You're also just moments from the buzzing beaches and exciting theme parks of Sentosa Island. And, to celebrate the Singapore Bicentennial's heritage events and festivals, we've included afternoon tea at the city's colonial icon – Raffles Hotel.
