Day by day itinerary

Day 1
Dubrovnik

After a short flight from the UK, you'll be met at the airport and transferred to the Prijeko Palace Hotel. This historic 15th-century building within Dubrovnik's city walls was originally built for a local aristocratic family, and has been lovingly restored to its former glory. After an afternoon exploring the town, or settling in to your room, the Stara Loza Restaurant and wine cellars are the perfect place to sample some local cuisine and enjoy a relaxing drink.

Stay: Prijeko Palace Hotel, Dubrovnik (Deluxe)

Day 2
Dubrovnik

Today you'll meet your local guide for a private walking tour of Dubrovnik, widely considered one of the most beautiful stone-built cities in the world. Highlights include one of Europe's oldest pharmacies; the 16th century Sponza Palace; the Church of St Blaise, the patron saint of the city; the Gothic Rector's Palace, which houses an impressive museum; and the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin, which contains an original painting by Titian. The afternoon is free for your own exploration – perhaps take a walk around the old city walls.

Day 3
Trebinje and Tvrdos Monastery

Between UNESCO-listed Dubrovnik, Kotor and Mostar, you'll find the picturesque town of Trebinje in Herzegovina. Take a tour of its treasured monasteries and historic buildings, before continuing on to Tvrdos Monastery, built on the foundations of an old church. Though the monastery was destroyed and rebuilt several times throughout its long history, today it produces the highest quality wines – well worth a taste.

Day 4
Dubrovnik to Kotor

Explore the jewels of Boka Bay, from the border town of Herceg Novi and its endless puzzle of fortresses, squares and churches, to the islands of Perast. In Kotor, a city with a complex history, your accommodation is located on the coast, with picturesque water views.

Stay: Libertas Hotel, Kotor (Superior)

Day 5
Kotor City Walls

After breakfast this morning, your guide will meet you at the Main Gate and lead you on a climb to the St Giovanni Fortress, with time to admire views of Kotor Bay. The rest of the day is free to spend at leisure.

Day 6
Kotor

Today you have more time to get to know Kotor, or you might prefer to add on a private tour of royal Montenegro. Visit Cetinje, the old royal capital, and Budva, one of the oldest settlements on the Adriatic – rebuilt after a devastating earthquake in 1976.

Stay: Libertas Hotel, Kotor (Superior)

Day 7
Skadar Lake National Park

From the tiny village of Virpazar, set on Skadar Lake, you'll board a traditional fishing boat and cruise past quaint villages and an Ottoman fortress en route to Karac. Dine on ultra-fresh lake fish at a local restaurant and take a refreshing dip before your return to Kotor.
