Visit Puerto Malonado
The vibrant frontier city of Puerto Maldonado is located at the juncture of the Madre de Dios and Tambopata rivers and is the best base for exploring the south-eastern jungles of the Tambopata Reserve.
The area is one of the most biodiverse in the Peruvian Amazon, with beautiful rivers, pristine lakes and primary rainforest teeming with life.
The reserve has many fine lodges staffed by naturalist guides and some of the rainforest's largest clay licks, which attract thousands of macaws, parrots, tapirs and other species.
