Visit San Gimignano
San Gimignano is a beautiful walled medieval hill town in Tuscany's Siena province, famous for its architecture and high towers. ‘San Gimignano delle belle Torri' is 56km south of Florence and served as an important relay point for pilgrims travelling to or from Rome on the Via Francigema. The noble families who controlled San Gimignano built around 72 tower-houses (some as high as 50m tall) as a symbol of their wealth and power. Today 14 remain which can be seen from afar, lending the town a feudal atmosphere and appearance, enhanced by several masterpieces of 14th- and 15th-century Italian art.
