Visit Kuala Terangganu
The capital of the east coast state of Terengganu has developed rapidly from a small fishing port into a city of half a million people over the past two decades. Yet despite its rapid growth it retains many of its charms, not least its thriving arts and crafts scene.
The central market, Pasar Payang, is a jumble of stalls selling songket, a traditional hand-woven Malay textile patterned with gold and silver thread, together with batik (wax-dyed fabrics), brass, silverware and woodcarvings.
