Activity adventure
Follow in the footsteps of the gold rush pioneers with this half-day off-roader experience. You’ll head out of Queenstown towards Coronet Peak for mountainside views over Wakatipu Basin before you turn onto the treacherous Skippers Road. This precipitous route will bring you – via a century-old suspension bridge – to dramatic canyon overlooks, stunning rock formations and the historic township. Here you’ll pause for refreshments and the chance to step back in time with a restored schoolhouse, homestead and cemetery that memorialise the often-dangerous life of the gold prospectors. You’ll also pan for gold yourself with a stop at Deep Creek, one of the most gilded rivers in the world.
