The British Virgin Islands – all glistening white sands and shimmering turquoise seas – is the Caribbean at its tropical best. And there's no better way to explore its hidden coves, secluded bays and out-of-the-way islets than by luxury yacht. Following a three-night stay at St-Martin's Belmond La Sammana, you'll step aboard Crystal Esprit, where, between included dolphin swims, shipwreck dives, zip-wire plunges and more than the occasional spiced-rum cocktail, you'll relax in all-suite comfort with onboard spa treatments and Michelin-standard dining.

Day by day itinerary

Days 1-3
UK to St. Martin, French West Indies

Start your holiday in style with included VIP lounge access before your flight to St-Martin. Arriving into the capital, Marigot, you'll be met or a private transfer to your luxury hotel – the exquisite Belmond La Samanna. Overlooking arguable the island's finest stretch of sand, it's regularly ranked among the Caribbean's best hotels. For the ultimate in barefoot luxury, reserve a beachside cabana for the day – bottle of champagne included –  book a massage or relax in a hammock accompanied by the cooling breeze and sound of the gently lapping sea. If you can tear yourself away from the hotel's many indulgences, the island itself is a joy to explore. One part French, one part Dutch, it's a delightful mix of verdant mountains, colourful towns, busy markets and glorious stretches of white-sand, studded, of course, with ubiquitous palms.

Day 4

Check out this morning as you swap the five-star comforts of your hotel for the five-star comforts of your luxury yacht – Crystal Esprit. Once on board, your bag will be unpacked for you, leaving you plenty of time to familiarise yourself with your new surroundings; there's an onboard spa and gym, a sauna and restaurants serving everything from seafood grills to Michelin-standard cuisine. What's more, the ship's private marina platform offers a whole host of water sports, with waterskiing, wake boarding, kayaking and even a two-passenger submarine to enjoy. Day 5
St. Barts

Framed by a series of volcanic peaks, their forested slopes tumbling down to stretches of powder-soft sand, St. Barts is all that's wonderful about the Caribbean. You'll have a full day here to stroll the island's frangipani-and bougainvillea-scented gardens, dive into the crystalline waters of its secluded bays and browse the upscale boutiques of it pretty, pastel-hued villages.

Day 6
Anegada & Scrub Island, British Virgin Islands

After another night at sea, you'll arrive, refreshed, into Anegada, the most easterly of the British Virgin Islands. An utter contrast to what's gone before, Anegada is pancake-flat, its desert-island setting home to just a handful of restaurants and guesthouses, and a permanent population of just 285. Here, postcard-perfect bays with such names as Loblolly are lapped by an impossibly blue sea as flamingos flock around salt ponds, and the world's fourth-largest barrier reef sets the scene for some spectacular underwater adventures. The island is something of a revelation for foodies, too, with the its lobsters purported to be the best in the Caribbean. This evening, sail to tiny Scrub Island for an optional evening of pampered indulgence at a five-star hotel.

Day 7
Jost Van Dyke

Setting sail once more, today's voyage takes you to Jost Van Dyke. Spend a day exploring the sun-kissed coves and bays of its idyllic four-mile stretch, perhaps trying a glass or two of the islanders' signature cocktail. Made of Pussers dark rum, cream of coconut, a splash of orange and pineapple and a dusting of nutmeg, it's a potent punch known as the Painkiller. Then, in the afternoon, head to Great Harbour, a lively hub of bars, boutiques and bakeries; be sure to pop in to try a sticky bun at Christine's, while the unassuming Foxy's, having grown from a pop-up drinks stand selling Firewater rum, has a reputation as one of the most authentic beach bars in the Caribbean. You'll spend tonight moored up in the harbour.

Day 8
Salt Island, Tortola & Peter Island

A small, uninhabited island south of Tortola, Salt Island is best known for the wreck of the RMS Rhone, a 310-foot iron sailing ship that met her end as a hurricane struck on 29th October 1867. Today, her coral-encrusted remains are regarded as one of the region's finest dive sites. And, for those who prefer to remain on dry land, the chance to visit the island's graveyard provides a poignant reminder of the wreck's human cost. This afternoon you'll call in to Tortola, the largest of the British Virgin Islands, where excursions include dolphin swims and zip-line adventures through the forest canopy. Then, sail on to Peter Island, a private oasis whose secluded beaches, including the mile-long crescent of Deadman's Bay, are the stuff of pirate legend.

Days 9-10
The Indians, Virgin Gorda & Gorda Sound

Having spent the night moored off Peter Island, your next hop will bring you to an equally idyllic spot – the Indians. This group of rocky pinnacles to the south of Tortola rise 60 feet above the water, their rugged form akin to that of a Native Indian headdress. Moor up for a morning of underwater fun as you launch diving, snorkelling and kayaking trips from the Esprit's onboard marina. Then, in the afternoon, you'll sail on to Virgin Gorda. Named by Christopher Columbus for its resemblance to a reclining woman, it's an island of breathtaking tropical beauty, a fact not lost on Sir Richard Branson who owns one of the smaller islands offshore. Take time to splash in the turquoise waters and perhaps visit the rock formations, known as the Baths, before sailing to Gorda Sound. At this secluded stretch of inland sea you'll find everything from trendy yacht clubs to pristine coral reefs and activities such as kiteboarding and Sunfish sailboating.
